How to Be Italian (Through Italian Fragrances)

Oh la dolce vita! Summers by the sea in Sicily, long drives down the Amalfi coast, sunsets on Lake Como – nothing sounds as romantic as an Italian summer. Drinking lemoncello by the Med, that’s the life for me! I’ve rounded up my favourite Italian fragrances in this post – the ones that make me feel the most Italian so I can imagine myself dining in style in Capri. The scent of these fragrances will have you dreaming of the Italian sun, the summer and definitely a holiday!

Let’s start with newest edition of Trussardi Donna. This is an Eau de Toilette which is perfect for the hot summer. It’s LOVELY. It’s light, airy, elegant and sophisticated. It’s perfect for a holiday because it’s very feminine so if you are going on a romantic trip away (to Italy of course) this is perfect.

Trussardi Donna is a floriental (I love that word) meaning it is a floral fragrance with a bit of spicy, oriental depth. The top notes that you will notice the moment the scent molecules hit your skin is yuzu, cedrat and watery fruits such as melon. This then becomes more complex with the heart notes and here is where the more feminine notes come out to play with jasmine tea, orange blossom and lotus. I love orange blossom by the way, I think it is one of the loveliest scents out there. Then the base gets a bit sexier with woody notes like sandalwood, white patchouli, cedar and vanilla. So this is a perfect fragrance for the feminine woman, with an edge.

The bottle is simple but pretty and the scent as an EDT will go away quite quickly but it’s great for the summer as you don’t want anything too heavy in the heat or you start to smell like a wilting flower. This is fresh and light and perfect for a day out in the summer.

Talking about fresh…one of my all-time favourite Italian fragrance houses is Moschino. I LOVE their scents and half the fun is in the packaging don’t you think? I mean, seriously, how could you not lighten up with the Moschino Fresh Couture Eau de Toilette Spray (below) which comes in bottle that looks like window cleaner. This is a fragrance that is fun and lighthearted and doesn’t take itself too seriously. So many fashion brands come from Italy so it’s great to have a fragrance to go hand in hand with your Italian couture too.

So what’s in the juice? This is a sparkling fragrance and definitely a fresh one with top notes of bergamot, mandarin and Ylang Ylang. The heart notes are fruitier and more playful with raspberry, white peony and osmanthus while the base notes add a bit more of an edge with cedar wood, white patchouli and ambrox.

Moschino says the fragrance “toys with elements of happiness, spontaneity and alluring femininity to offer its wearer a unique signature with a high fashion edge.”

So yes, this is playful and fun and goes perfect with your Fendi dress.

And last but not least the shining star of the show is the new Versace Eros Pour Femme Eau de Toilette. This fragrance is beautiful – designed for airy nights dining on delicious food and feeling fabulous. This fragrance I think you should save for when you want to feel seriously sexy.

The bottle is absolutely gorgeous – a true shelfie star. It’s heavy and luxe – this is a special one. I am really into gold at the moment as well so love all the gold casing and detailing – I would expect no less from Versace.

And what about the fragrance? Versace says this is “the primal power of a woman, captured in a radiant, sensual essence.” To be honest, I would say I would have to agree. This fragrance is all about desire so wear it when you want to be desired and the Italians are all about romance and feeling sexy so embrace it!

This is an Eau de Toilette but the scent is so rich that I had originally confused this to be an Eau de Parfum! This is perfect dabbed behind the ears, on the throat and at the pulse points. Every note in this is unique – the top notes are very fruity with Sicilian Lemon, Mandarin, Raspberry Sorbet and White Currant. The fruit notes then turn to floral with Freesia, Magnolia, Jasmine Petals and Orange Blossom. The base gets sexier with Ambrox, Sensual Woods, White Patchouli and Musk. This is a fragrance truly worth treasuring. If you get it I hope you will love it as much as I do!
