The Best Brunch in London

I’m totally a brunch girl. I always have been and always will. Brunch will always remain my favourite meal of the day. I remember when I was in my teens and my mother would let me and my siblings pick what we wanted for dinner on our birthdays – anything would go! Guess what I always requested? Pancakes. Yes, that’s right – pancakes. It’s still my most requested ‘dish’ every time I go home as well. So even before brunch officially became trendy in London, I’ve always been its number one fan. I’ve searched high and low for the best places to have brunch in London and my discovery has finally brought me to Boisdale of Mayfair

This adorable restaurant – just steps away from Marble Arch station in London – has a damn good brunch. If you follow me at all you will know that I also LOVE coffee – cappuccinos, lattes and flat whites – if it has coffee in it I love it. The coffees at Boisdale of Mayfair are good – I can attest to that! I also love that my cappuccino below came with a little heart on it.

As I mentioned I am a FAN girl of pancakes! I love that Boisdale has both varieties – the crepe type or the buttermilk type (that I love the most). There are savoury pancakes and sweet pancakes – about nine different varieties. I also feel that brunch is not really brunch without pancakes (that is probably the American in me!). Brunch is all about balancing sweet with savoury – this is the true art of brunch.

One example of a savoury pancake that you can order from Boisdale of Mayfair is the one you can see in the picture below – it’s a crepe topped with oak-smoked salmon, sauteed spinach, poached egg, black caviar and creme fraiche. Delicious!

I love a traditional brunch however and always go for the Eggs Benedict. The variety I chose at Boisdale of Mayfair came served with an English Muffin, avocado, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. I am a huge fan of avocado too so love that the Eggs Benedict below is a twist on the original (served with either ham, smoked salmon or spinach).

Another twist on Eggs Benedict is Eggs Benedict served with lobster. Seriously indulgent but that is what brunch is all about. I haven’t found a brunch spot in London so far with so many varieties on the classic Eggs Benedict dish so appreciate that Boisdale of Mayfair have put a spin on the traditional.

Another thing I love about brunch is omelettes! The Boisdale variety comes topped with Devonshire crab. Seriously, if you are looking for good brunch spots in London, this is the place.

You can also order sides with any of the breakfast mains – I ordered a side of smoked salmon (can’t get enough of those Omega 3s!). It’s actually the perfect serving size and I added this to my already divine Eggs Benedict dish.

I also ordered a side of pink grapefruit which feels like a really exotic dish in grey February! Just the gorgeous pink and juicy flesh of the grapefruit made me think of summer for a fleeting moment.

As I mentioned before the best brunch is always a bit of savoury and a bit of sweet. I like my pancakes on the sweet side so the bananas and nutella version (below) is right down my alley. Although normally I would go more towards the traditional pancake with butter and maple syrup.

If you want healthy there is always yogurt and berries! I like that at this brunch there were so many varieties of pancakes, egg and side dishes to choose from – it’s the variety that counts and that means there is something for everyone.

Boisdale of Mayfair is centrally located so a great spot for meeting friends central – it is still quiet in the mornings and has a nice, elegant atmosphere.
