Going Green: Hard Working Products With Green Power

Going green. Sometimes it’s not an easy thing to do and takes real effort. However, I am here to say it doesn’t have to be that hard. With so many products going green these days it’s easy to find hard working products with green power. Let me introduce you to my favourites.

I’ve picked out the top ‘green’ or natural products that I have tried recently and I will start with MyChelle http:www.mychelleuk.com. MyChelle’s mantra is ‘Seeded in science and rooted in nature.’ They are a U.S. company and were founded in 2000 and their products contain no toxic chemicals and no nasty ingredients. They source plant-based ingredients from all around the world to create their products.

I’ve been using the Remarkable Retinal Serum which goes on like a lotion and has a interesting colour due to the Orange Plant Stem Cells so it’s quite fun to put on. It sinks into skin easily and doesn’t leave a sticky feeling afterwards. One or two pumps of this goes a long way as well. A patented 4-part process with a ceramide delivery makes Retinal 500x more powerful than any other types of Vitamin A! This serum has shown to decrease fine lines by 42%, reduce redness by 70% and can soften the appearance of sun spots in just four weeks. I am hooked!

In addition to this I have been using the MyChelle Wrinkle Spot Treatment which is a rollerball that lets you target wrinkles on the spot. The great thing about MyChelle is that you can layer their serums for increased benefits so it won’t overload the skin as usual if you were mixing different products. The products work together to compliment each other. The rollerball Wrinkle Spot Treatment is very cooling and refreshing as well and I have used it to give myself a mini-massage on my furrow lines and nose to mouth lines.

Talking about serums I have been really impressed with two in particular that come from New Zealand. As of last year, I’ve gotten hooked on Trilogy’s Organic Rosehip Oil-especially in the evening. I turned to it after my skin had had a few bad reactions to a product to help it calm down. I used it at night under my night moisturiser and was really happy as I felt it balanced my skin and helped it get back to normal. Rosehip Oil is packed with antioxidants and certainly packs a punch. It helps with hyperpigmentation and is also deeply hydrating.

Another New Zealand product I have been impressed with is Antipodes Hosanna H20 Intensive Skin-Plumping Serum. This sinks into skin very rapidly and is oil-free so won’t clog pores. My skin has felt brighter after using this. It contains the Vinanza Grape antioxidant from New Zealand sauvingnon blanc grapes and helps powerfully protect and build resistance to damage caused by environmental aggressors and pollutants. And it was named in Harper’s Bazaar Awards in 2011-a very big accolade indeed! As I live in London, I think it’s important to have skin products that help to fight against pollution that my skin is exposed to every day.

I suffer from dark spots and old acne scars that just won’t seem to fade away (maybe I am being picky-no pun intended) and a new natural product I have stumbled upon is S5 which are organic cosmeceuticals for stressed skin. Again, living in a big city like London does no favours to my skin and that’s why I turn to products that help protect against environmental aggressors like exhaust, weather, pollution, etc. The interesting thing about S5 is that they source their ingredients from the 5 most extreme ecosystems in the world; the Arctic, the desert, the rainforest, the high altitude regions and the sea. Pretty cool I think! The reason they do this is because plants in those regions have evolved to deal with extreme and volatile conditions. I truly feel like I am putting on armour when I wear this. Skin armour. Those environmental aggressors will not get in!

As I have those old acne marks that I am trying to fade away, I turn to the S5 Replenish Serum-specifically targeted for acne scars (hooray!!). The S5 Illuminate Serum also targets hyperpigmentation so with this skin armour I feel I am prepared to fight anything.

Now onto the cleanser! Pai is a very well known brand in the natural skin care world and I have used their Organic Kukui & Jojoba Bead Skin Brightening Exfoliator. This is similar to a very rich cleansing balm with very gentle exfoliating beads that instead of feeling abrasive, felt more like a soothing massage. My skin felt soft and smooth but not overscrubbed after using it. I think this is best used on a clean face however instead of a face full of make-up unless you are sure to follow up with a micellar water to wipe off any remaining residue (I used Vichy Normaderm).

Oooh natural brands for hair…let’s talk about Swell. I have a perfect little set of Swell products that are great for if you want to stay natural while being on the road, i.e. travelling. Swell is a cult British beauty brand that is great for people with thin or thinning hair and they have recently launched their Advanced Volumising Masque which strengthens brittle hair and replenishes lost moisture that is caused by daily environmental factors such as pollution, harsh weather and sun damage. It’s a dangerous world out there people!

The Volumising Masque should be used once a week and after shampooing hair it needs to be left on for several minutes, depending on the length of your hair. It’s great when natural products can do the same things as regular products that contain harsher chemicals. Then there is no excuse not to switch!

I also like Swell’s Root Nutrient Complex which you simply spray onto your roots, even between washes to refresh and invigorate your scalp. It is a unique weightless root spray which creates instant volume and stimulates and nourishes the roots of your hair for improved growth and healthier stronger hair.

Last but certainly not least I want to highlight an Italian brand who sources oil from Peru to make Inca Oil Natural Shampoo and also Pandora Oil which can be used on damp hair similarly as any other oil elixir. Here’s the kicker: this shampoo is pH balanced so you can wash your hair everyday with this, it’s so gentle! I have really fine hair that gets oily quickly so this is a shampoo I would turn to if I needed to wash my hair everyday. This is a perfect shampoo to take with you on a beach holiday as you pretty much have to wash your hair everyday if you are swimming in pools and oceans.

Scientific studies have described Sacha Inchi (Inca Oil) as the best natural oil for its high unsaturated fatty acid content and its unique nourishing properties. Omega 3 (more than 48%), omega 6 (36%) and omega 9 (8%) ensure the epithelial tissues’ protection, elasticity and hydration. The high anti-oxidant and regenerating properties of vitamin A and vitamin E stop free radical action, prevent and heal hair and skin problems.

The Pandora Oil helps to strengthen hair and is great to put on split ends.
