There are so many reasons why flower power is totally in! There’s been a move lately towards the natural and using florals and botanicals to rev up skincare. There are a lot of powerful plants out there with real benefits to the skin and sometimes what’s good for inside is also good for outside. Here are some of my favourite flower power brands and products – ones who are really using the power of plants to make a difference.
I’m a huge fan of a good facial mist so this Sanoflore Organic Ancient Rose Floral Water Clarifying Facial Toner (wow that was a long word) is just the flower power ticket. It is also organic which I love. I could spritz this all darn day if given the chance – it’s refreshing, soothing and gives my skin a much-need drink throughout the day. The rosewater tones, soothes and smells uplifting – a desk-side saviour if I ever saw one!
When I’m not using the Fresh Peony Brightening Night Treatment Mask I have been indulging in the Sanoflore Rosa Angelica Baume which is certified organic and uses the power of the rose to hydrate and soothe the complexion. I’ve spoken about Sanoflore before in a previous post so if you are familiar with the brand from that post then you will know I’m a big fan. This balm is like a big drink for the skin and hydrates at the deepest levels. It also contains 100% natural hyaluronic acid (the magic water molecule) to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. I love the texture of this product which is a hybrid balm/gel – it leaves skin feeling dewy and fresh by the morning!
I’ve got an issue with pigmentation. It started a few years ago and I’m not sure why. Possibly stress, hormones and pollution all had something to do with it. Needless to say I’m not happy about it! So I keep battling it and trying to keep it at bay. I use SPF every day and am currently using the new Shiseido Waso Colour Smart Moisturiser with SPF 30 but not only do you need to prevent pigmentation but you also have to treat it.
With that I’ve started testing out the Fresh Peony Brightening Night Treatment and I’m already quite impressed. My skin definitely looks brighter after just a few uses and it uses the power of peony to help lighten the appearance of dark spots, correct uneven skin tone and brighten the complexion. I love that it is an overnight treatment so simply apply after cleansing and leave on overnight. This suits the lazy part of me that sometimes wants to skip all my usual skincare steps and slap on some face cream. Yes!
If you follow me on Instagram @beautyrockblog you would have seen that I went to a Jurlique event earlier in the week for the launch of their Herbal Recovery range. I learned all about how to apply the products including warming the product in the hand and then patting on and pressing into the skin for maximum effectiveness. According to the Jurlique experts you shouldn’t rub your products into your skin but press them in. I’ve always been a ‘patter’ so was really happy to hear this!
As you may know Jurlique products are all based on botanicals and plants, grown at their farm in Adelaide, Australia. And being a fan of the Rosewater Balancing Mist I’ve always been intrigued by their skincare range in particular. So what is the Herbal Recovery Advanced Serum? Well this is a serum created from plant science that helps reduce fine lines, improve elasticity and restore radiance. Considering I could really use the ‘restoring radiance’ benefit I didn’t waste any time to start testing these products out. I love that this product sinks in quickly and doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy. A little goes a long way as well – you just need 1-2 pumps and then warm in hands and press into the skin.
Persian Silk Tree Extract: Helps strengthen and shield against environmental stress
Whu-Zhu-Yu Extract: Possesses excellent microcirculation boosting and skin smoothing properties
Peach Leaf Extract: Helps recover skin vitality and supports natural cellular regeneration
And for the final touch if you are using either of the Jurlique Herbal Recovery products I’ve mentioned above you might as well try out the Herbal Recovery Advanced Eye Serum! My biggest issue with the skin around my eyes is tiredness and fatigue. I always look tired and if I’m tired, my eyes will definitely give it away. Oh to be young again and wake up looking fab on little sleep. If you do suffer from dark circles or dehydration lines around the eyes like me then this little gem is worth looking into. Again I’ve just started using it but I do think that it helps to make eyes look less tired. And that my friends, is priceless.
You can’t have serum without a matching Day Cream. I always think if you use products within the same range they are more likely to be friends and work together at the benefit of your skin! The Jurlique Herbal Recovery Advanced Day Cream uses a blend of 18 botanicals (WOW!). And you know I love a Japanese beauty ingredient so I was pleased to see the star ingredient of this Day Cream is Japanese Cedar Bud Extract which helps smooth and keep skin supple. Please please douse me in this. This cream feels smoothing and lovely on the skin and again doesn’t leave the skin feeling greasy.
I absolutely need a hydrating mist when I’m travelling – I spritz it every two hours while on the plane to deliver a fresh boost of moisture. Plane air really is dehydrating – it’s not a myth. It’s as dry or drier than desert air so you really need to up your hydration game when travelling. I love the Botanics 100% Organic Refreshing Toning Spritz – it’s uplifting, refreshing and hydrating all at once with organic rose water. You can also use it as a make-up remover!
