My Philips Zoom! Teeth Whitening Treatment – Beauty Rocks

Who doesn’t want whiter, brighter teeth? I know I do! White teeth just look so much better and also make you want to smile more to show them off. I recently was invited to try out the Philips Zoom! Teeth Whitening Treatment at the SW1 Dental Studio and as I am a big fan of Philips dental products in general (Diamond Clean, Air Floss, etc) there was no way I wasn’t going to try it! Now, my teeth are naturally pretty white but I like to top up/maintain their whiteness every couple of years ago. The last teeth whitening I had was a couple of years ago on Harley Street and so I felt it was time again to top up/maintain.

Although my teeth are naturally quite white I do eat/drink a lot of staining foods such as tea, coffee, red wine, Indian curry, berries, etc. So over time there is no way I can avoid a slight staining on the teeth. Therefore I think it’s important – at least for myself – to top up every couple of years.

So when I arrived at the SW1 Dental studio I was put in the very capable hands of Dr. Rhona Eskander who explained how the treatment would work and how long it would take which was approximately one hour (4 x 15 min treatments in a row). I like that Dr. Eskander is super efficient, explains everything very well but doesn’t mess around. The first thing we did was make a teeth mold for my take-home trays that I would use later at home (which I will explain later).

Once that was done the treatment began. A large mouth device is essentially put into your mouth but it’s not too uncomfortable and the most genius part of the whole experience is that the SW1 Dental Studio has DVD glasses so that you can watch a DVD through glasses (think VR and you are on the right track). So the time goes by really quickly and it’s actually quite comfortable to lay there and watch a movie (I watched The Holiday – classic!). The four 15-minute sessions went by really quickly where the gel on the device was reapplied and suddenly it was all over. This is a fantastic treatment that you could literally do on your lunch break – it’s fast and easy which I liked.

I was instructed not to eat/drink any staining foods for the next three days (a bit hard for me!) so just be prepared to do that if you are planning to book the treatment. Don’t do it before a big party, event, etc. – plan it out carefully so you can follow the plan and not eat/drink staining foods for three days post treatment. I am happy to say I am now able to drink red wine again (woohoo)!

Post treatment you need to use the Philips At-Home Whitening Kit. All you have to do with this is apply the teeth whitening gels to your teeth trays (specially created for me prior to the treatment) and then leave them in for 30 minutes 2x a day for three days after the treatment. The teeth trays because they are created in the office from a personal teeth mold fit perfectly in the mouth so they are really comfortable.

So what was the result? I was super pleased with my result! My teeth although quite white already now feel even whiter by a few shades. Your teeth will only whiten as much as they naturally can so shades will vary per person. Because this was an easy, efficient treatment that only took an hour and didn’t cause any sensitivity or pain I would highly recommend it! White teeth give me more confidence and make me want to smile!

Compared to my teeth before the treatment (sorry for the scary photo!)….

One thing to note is that I did have light staining between the lower teeth where they are quite close together. I asked Dr. Eskander how to get rid of this and she explained that the whitening treatment would not remove the staining (which is kind of like limescale build-up on a kettle). The staining would have to be removed by a special treatment that I can most simply describe as ‘teeth exfoliation’ or a kind of ‘sand-blasting’ which she very kindly offered to do for me. So about a week following the treatment, I revisited the clinic for a very quick and speedy (I think it took 10 minutes) exfoliation/sand blasting/air abrasion to remove the staining between the lower teeth and it amazingly worked! So I would also very highly recommend this treatment and regular top ups (speak to your dentist) to target any staining.
