I’m all about effortless hair for the spring – the ‘I woke up like this’ kind of look. Who doesn’t want to look like that? I’ve come across some real hair heroes for spring that give your hair the kind of quick wins it needs to look good with not a lot of effort. So shall we?
First up let’s talk about hair tools. I’m not into complicated hair tools at all and for me, the easier the tool to use, the more likely I am going to use it. Take the Dafni Hair Straightening Brush – this is the perfect example of a hair tool that doesn’t take a huge manual of instructions to read through in order to use. It’s a simple concept – it’s a straightening brush. It heats up within a minute so if you don’t have a lot of time well then this is a good product for you. It only has one temperature as well (185°C) so you don’t have to fiddle around with settings. For ease of use I give this product a 5 out of 5. You just plug it in, wait a minute for it to heat up and then brush slowly through your hair (downwards).
I used this to create a really sleek ponytail. I simply brushed it through my hair and then pulled it up. Never had my ponytail looked so smooth. Then the next day I took it down and my hair was still pretty sleek with soft, controlled waves. I will definitely be using this on the days that I wash my hair and blowdry it because the sleek style sticks around until the next time you need to wash your hair.
Next up is the Remington Air Plates Hair Straightener. Now I really like this because it has worldwide voltage so it will travel with you anywhere. Also this is the first hair straightener with suspended plates. What does that mean? Well, it allows the plates to be flexible, which means they come into contact with every strand. This means that you don’t have to run the straightener over the same length of hair again and again to get it perfectly straight. So again, ease of use – 5 out of 5. You can straighten hair pretty quickly and easily with this. The plates also have 10x more ceramic so they glide through hair more easily.
You can see the suspended plates in more detail in the below image. I really do like this hair straightener and again once you straighten your hair you can leave it until your next hair wash day whether that’s in a day or three days!
Now we have talked about hair tools to give your hair that effortless hairstyle for spring but what are some good products to use? Remember if you are heat styling it’s really important to protect and take extra special care of your hair. As much as it is important to wear sunscreen out in the sun, it is important to use a heat protector on your hair before styling. Also looking after it with really good shampoo and conditioner will help. A brand that I’ve discovered recently is Kallos Lab 35. I actually (I know I’m being vain) just love the brightly coloured packaging on the bottles (below). Who wouldn’t want to wake up to that in the morning?
The Kallos Lab 35 Signature Shampoo comes in a bright pink bottle and is specifically for dry and damaged hair. If you are heat styling regularly you need a shampoo like this. The Lab 35 Shampoo is rich in keratin protein to restore elasticity and also contains antioxidant olive oil, plus vitamins A, D and E to restructure and revitalise weak hair. And it’s only £6.00 from Beauty Mart – what’s not to love? Great little hair heroes!
There is also the Lab 35 Signature Hair Conditioner for dry and damaged hair. Like the shampoo it contains keratin protein, antioxidant olive oil, plus vitamins A, D and E to restructure and revitalise weak hair. And the great thing again is that this is not a lot of money – only £6.00!
What if you have colour-treated hair and heat style it too? Well then you need a shampoo/conditioner especially for colour-treated hair. Rita Hazan (the queen of hair in New York City!) recently made a visit to London to launch her new hair range – Rita Hazan. There are some amazing products in the collection including the True Color Shampoo and True Color Conditioner below. These products are super gentle for colour-treated hair, ensuring your colour doesn’t fade out. Rita uses botanical surfactants and a blend of Rice Proteins and Moringa Seed extract in her shampoo to gently cleanse and nourish hair which also helps to remove build-up. And the conditioner helps protect against UV rays too!
Sometimes with heat styling and the combination of hard water the ends of my hair get quite parched. I’ve been using Alchemy Amla Hair Remedy on the ends of my hair. This little potion contains a blend of 5 oils to help strengthen hair. I massage it onto the ends of towel-dried hair for a little bit of extra nourishment. The oil blend contains Amla, Coconut, Avocado, and Argan oils topped off with a splash of Lemon Essential Oil to naturally cleanse. And the oil smells amazing too!
As I mentioned you definitely need a heat protection spray if you are going to be heat styling your hair. VO5 has just launched their new Express Primer Spray for hair that you can simply mist onto towel-dried hair after washing to protect your hair before blow drying. It helps to detangle and it also has serious heat protection power – with 230º heat protection. I actually spray a bit of this in my hair on the no-wash days as well if I am heat styling in between. DON’T FORGET YOUR HEAT PROTECTION!
