If you’ve been following me on Instagram you will know that I’ve been talking a lot lately about my favourite beauty products from around the world. I’ve travelled a lot in my day – to over 50 countries and have lived in 4 – including Japan for four years. And on that theme I can’t wait to tell you about a HUGE project I’ve been working on that I am going to reveal next week. It combines my love of travel with my love of beauty so tune into my Instagram @beautyrocksblog to hear the big reveal on Monday! And on that note I want to tell you about my favourite brands and products from 10 different countries – here is my around the world beauty edit!
Around The World Beauty
If you haven’t tried Erborian yet I urge you to give it a go! I have fallen in love with this French/Korean fusion of a brand that uses Korean skincare technology and key ingredients such as ginseng and bamboo in their make-up and skincare products. The brand was started in France by a French woman and a Korean woman however the brand focuses on Korean ingredients. The BB Creme originated from Korea and the Erborian BB Creme Nude is the best BB Cream I’ve ever tried! It goes on smoothly and doesn’t clump and the formula and texture are amazing. You can find Erborian stocked at Fabled by Marie Claire – online or in their Tottenham Court Road location (London).
Kat Von D & Too Faced (USA)
There are some fantastic beauty brands that hail from Stateside and two of my favourites are Kat Von D and Too Faced who also are just so cool that they happen to be friends and created a Limited Edition Better Together palette
I love the idea behind this palette – the idea that two are stronger than one. This is a limited edition palette from Kat from Kat Von D and Jerrod from Too Faced and I really love the idea of two very fun brands coming together to make a fabulous product. One sweet and pretty and the other a bit more edgy. This palette is all about celebrating love and friendship as well as a passion for make-up! The palette also comes with Kat Von D’s Tattoo Liner (really good and doesn’t smudge) and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex mascara (really really good mascara if you are after those fluttery lashes). The palette also has a magnetic centre so that they can be separated or placed together. Literally everything you need in a palette from shadows, to liner to mascara! I also like that this palette has a mix of both matte shades and metallic shades and with names like Friendspiration and Power Couple how could you go wrong?
I am officially obsessed with lip oils. They feel amazing on the lips and if your lips tend to get dry in the winter then these are like a sweet drink. The Too Faced Sweet Peach Lip Oils are quite silky as well and taste delicious. I know you aren’t meant to lick your lips but you kind of can’t help it with these. The lip oils actually contain real peach oil too and coconut oil – now we know why they taste sooo good.
I’ve been testing out quite a few foundations lately and I have to say that this Kat Von D Lock It Foundation is seriously impressive. It’s a full-coverage foundation and is really long wear as well. My face didn’t get shiny or blotchy with oil during the day when I wore it and it creates such a smooth canvas that several people commented on it. I also didn’t have to wear concealer with this foundation as well so if you really want a super smooth canvas and have spots to hide I would highly recommend this! A little also goes a long way here. I found it really smoothed out flaws and I am actually planning to go to Debenhams where it is stocked exclusively to get colour-matched and buy another bottle! The formula is creamy and highly pigmented and it blends beautifully on the skin. Highly recommended.
Natura Bisse (Spain)
I am obsessed with this brand and again if you follow me on Instagram you might have heard me talking about it. Natura Bisse originates from Barcelona and I first tried the brand from a tiny little sample packet of the Diamond White SPF 50 that I received in a goody bag. From first swipe on the skin I was transfixed. The Natura Bisse Diamond White SPF 50 is a tinted SPF cream that creates the most beautiful sheen on the skin. It covers up blemishes and makes the face GLOW. It’s got the most unbelievable sheen and it makes you look like you are not wearing any make-up at all but are just naturally glowy. You can wear it on its own or as a primer over moisturiser. Seriously after trying that sample packet I’ve been looking for this product for two years as I couldn’t remember the name of it. And I finally got my hands on it. I won’t lie, the Diamond White SPF Cream is not cheap but it is worth the splurge. I don’t say that about every brand but I would urge you to test it out at Harrods where you can try it at the counter. See for yourself!
Lipstick Queen (Australia)
Lipstick Queen is one of the coolest lipstick brands out there and originates from Down Under. The brand first wowed with their colour-changing lipstick called Frog Prince that was green but upon application turned the lips just a perfect flush of pink. Colour adapted on the skin according to the pH level. Magic! I absolutely adore lipstick and I love the ethos and fun personality behind Lipstick Queen. The lipsticks are super cool too. I’ve got the brand new Morning Sunshine (this is a sneak peek as it hasn’t launched yet) and follows Frog Prince in the way that the actual lipstick is yellow but turns the lips a gorgeous coral pink upon application. I love the natural feel of the colour that this lipstick provides and it’s very moisturising at the same time.
If you want to be bold try a lipstick (with 90% pigment) from their Sinners collection. I’ve got a super sexy red which looks absolutely killer! Lipstick makes me feel confident and Lipstick Queen is all about this confident kind of feeling – and I’m totally down with that.
Japan (Yu Be Moisturizing Skin Cream)
If you are looking for an all-purpose skin cream that you can use on rough spots then say hello to Japan’s cult beauty buy – Yu Be Moisturising Skin Cream. The secret to the hydration in this cream is a high concentration of glycerine and superior absorbability. This is a great multi-purpose cream that you could carry in your handbag and use for just about anything! It’s also not greasy so gets bonus points.
Victor & Rolf (The Netherlands)
Yes Victor & Rolf are a luxury Dutch brand and hail from The Netherlands. The pair created the sensational Flowerbomb fragrance and have come back around again with the new Flowerbomb Bloom Eau de Toilette fragrance that has just launched! And I couldn’t think of better timing as this fragrance makes you want to put on your off-the-should floral dress and go skipping through the fields. It’s PERFECT for summer! Unlike the sweetness of Flowerbomb however Flowerbomb Bloom has a bit of sexy thrown in – it’s a floriental. I love floriental fragrances because I find them feminine yet still with a dash of spice to make it a bit more sophisticated. Flowerbomb Bloom has top notes of juicy pomegranate, bergamot and mandarin oils and then blooms into a heart of Centifolia Rose, Sambac Jasmin, India Osmanthus and Cattleya Orchid – literally a floral explosion for the senses. The sexiness comes out in the base notes with musk, vanilla and patchouli…just perfect.
France (Christian Breton)
And here is a brand from France that you may not have heard of before but will hopefully want to know more about after reading this! I literally peer closely at the skin around my eyes every single morning and night, examining every single fine line. I study them very closely! I decided that I need to take care of the skin around my eyes even more so have recently stumbled across Christian Breton – a brand from Paris that specialises in anti-ageing serums and creams for the eyes. It’s actually quite interesting to find such a brand that focuses on eye creams and serums so I was keen to give them a go. As I’m getting older (yikes) I am finding the eye area giving away more and more of my age. The Eye Priority Liftox is an eye serum that has snake-venom like peptides that help smooth and ‘freeze’ the skin. The formula is also quite plumping so it’s good for dehydration lines. You can apply it via a roll on applicator which feels quite refreshing and soothing so it’s particularly good to use in the morning!
When I read about this cream and that it was possible to look 10 years younger with it I had to give it a go! The key to this cream is the orchid which can live up to 100 years (did you know this?). An extract of the Royal Orchid has been taken and infused into this eye cream. The cream feels lovely and creamy from the start and it’s also non-irritating to the eye. The reason I do like to use eye creams is that they are specially formulated to be applied around the eye. We all know that stinging and eye burning sensation that comes when you put a cream to close to the eye that shouldn’t be there. Some people wonder if they should use a separate cream for the eye and I do like to. I also find that the results are better when you use an eye serum and cream together!
Switzerland (Dr. Levy)
Because of a recent outbreak and the fact that my pores have decided to get a little bigger (nooo) I’ve turned to Switzerland brand Dr. Levy to deep cleanse my skin. I absolutely love this cleanser which is called the 3Deep Cleanser – this is a cell renewal micro-resurfacing exfoliant. The reason I like it so much is that you can use it in three different ways. The first way is gentle cleansing where you simply apply the cleanser onto wet skin and massage gently and rinse. Great for everyday. The next way to use this cleanser is to use it for intensive micro-resurfacing. With this option you apply it to dry skin and massage thoroughly and then rinse off. I have been doing this in the morning. And finally you can use this cleanser also as a mask which is pretty cool – a skin-renewing fast mask to be exact. With this cleansing option you apply to dry skin and massage in. Leave on for 5 minutes and then rinse off. I’ve been doing the 3rd option quite a bit when I’ve got some extra time. I am impressed and the multi-purpose uses and that fact that this really works to slough off dead skin cells. My skin looks brighter and smoother!
Trussardi fragrances hail from Italy and this newest edition – Trussardi The Black Rose comes out in April 2017. Although this brand is Italian, this particular fragrance was inspired by the mountains of Saudi Arabia. I love fragrances that take their inspiration from travelling – in fact all fragrances do as the ingredients are sourced from all over the world. This one is built around the Taif rose – a gorgeous intoxicating rose that has a deep addictive scent. There is a spiciness to this fragrance with a pink pepper note and it’s warm and soothing with the spicy scent of the Middle Eastern rose. Trussardi fragrances keep the female in mind and the notes are truly built around what women want to feel like – strong, sexy, feminine and powerful. Can you go wrong?
The Black Rose EDP finishes out with a delicious blend of vanilla, patchouli, musk and amber.
United Kingdom (Lola’s Apothecary)
Lola’s Apothecary comes to us from Devon, England and is a beautiful and thoughtful brand that is handmade there. I love a luxurious body oil – I really think they are the most luxurious item you can put on your body (okay besides diamonds maybe!). I lean towards natural oils with aromatherapy benefits to really ease my senses at the end of the day. For me there is nothing nicer than either getting a massage with a lovely body oil or soaking in a hot bath. I’ve recently fallen in love with Lola’s Apothecary who makes really gorgeous oils with real live botanical elements in the bottle. This Delicate Romance Balancing Body & Massage Oil also can be used on the face as well as the body, hair and nails. You can also use it as a cleanser or make-up remover. Pretty much does it all I think! The way I like to use it however is exactly as described on the bottle, post bath as a massage oil. The scent is truly heavenly (think spices and roses) and soothing and you will really feel that you are treating yourself with this.
I have also recently fallen in love with shower oils. I love that they are a lot more soothing to the skin in a shower and almost turn the shower experience into a bath one in the sense that you can really lovingly apply these to the skin. This Delicate Romance Balancing Bath & Shower Oil can also be used in the bath. You will instantly smell the roses and spices in this luxe oil and I love the packaging on the bottle. This is a perfect shelfie product! I think if you are going to invest in one product for the bath make it a bath oil or bath soak and also invest in a good oil for after the bath. Your body will thank you.
I hope you have enjoyed travelling around the world of beauty with me on my around the world beauty edit and please stay tuned for my big surprise next week which (hint, hint) follows this very theme! Be sure to follow on Instagram @beautyrocksblog for all updates.
