Exfoliation: The Top 3 At-Home Treatments

I’m a huge fan of exfoliation – it helps skin to be at its brightest by increasing cell turnover and getting rid of any pesky dead skin cells that dull the complexion. I exfoliate often and use manual exfoliation as well as exfoliation with fruit acids or lactic acid. And I’ve recently gotten into the glycolic acids as well. You can also exfoliate your skin with an at-home peel or manually with a scrub. I’ve got three exfoliation treatments that I’ve been using at home in my quest for a more fresh-faced look. And we all want perfect skin summer don’t we? Because warmer weather means less make-up!

Exfoliation: The Top 3 At-Home Exfoliation Treatments

Kiehl’s Epidermal Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion

First off let me say that I LOVE this product! I like the ‘hard stuff’ when it comes to skincare and I love a good scrub. I prefer intensive scrubs over the scrubs that say they’re scrubs but I don’t really think they are. This Re-Texturizing Micro-Dermabrasion scrub from Kiehl’s is fabulous – it contains tiny crushed microshells derived from ocean sands so the formula is really grainy for a deep scrub. If you are scared of scrubs because they irritate your skin this one contains willow herb and algae to soothe the skin. It really does smooth the skin and you can use it 3 times a week – over time it diminishes the look of discolourations on the skin and marks. It’s nice to massage this over the face for a couple of minutes – my skin felt baby smooth after and it’s great to follow with your favourite serum so that it absorbs even better.

Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate

I fell in love with overnight peels since I’ve tried the Alpha H Liquid Gold with glycolic acid so was really keen to try the Kiehl’s Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate. This is a more gentle alternative to Alpha H Liquid Gold but it works in the same way (different ingredients though) to resurface and reveal smoother and brighter skin. This overnight peel contains quinoa extract that help to exfoliate skin and accelerate the skin’s nighttime cell turnover. This is to be used during the night and you can use it alone without any other product. Simply apply a few drops to clean, dry skin at night and then that’s all you have to do! The great thing about nightly peels is that they make your skincare routine pretty darn easy – no toners, essences, serums or moisturisers to put on – just one simple product.

Pixi Peel & Polish Resurfacing Concentrate

I love to treat my own skin at home and be my own facialist. This new product from Pixi is fabulous – it’s a Peel and Polish Resurfacing Concentrate and it’s a bit like microdermabrasion at home in the way that it uses enzymes that melt the ‘glue’ that binds dead skin cells to the skin. Use it as a treatment 2-3 times per week – you just need to apply to dry skin, leave on for five minutes and then you can massage into the skin to polish it. Then just rinse and follow with your favourite skincare. If your skin feels dull then this is a great product to use to brighten and smooth.
