With all the flights being cancelled due to the Beast from the East I decided that it was high time to have a London staycation – my very own London city break. I mean, I live in such a nice city to be a tourist in and sometimes it’s nice to pretend to be a tourist in my own city. And what better place to be a tourist than right next to Hyde Park?
This weekend I had a lovely little staycation and London city break at La Suite West, which is located in the heart of Bayswater and right next to Hyde Park. It’s a cute boutique hotel that is super centrally located making it really easy to get to all of London’s major sites. It’s also a great way to spend a weekend in West London due to it being so close to so many restaurants and sites.
I checked in on a Saturday and the first activity of the day (the most important one) was to eat. The hotel serves a vegan afternoon tea during the day and this was my first stop for the afternoon. The tea is really lovely with a range of delicious cakes, scones with coconut cream (the BEST scones I’ve ever had and the coconut cream was literally to die for) and mini vegan sandwiches. You can choose to have a mocktail added to your tea as well as have your choice of teas or coffees. I had a delicious almond latte which was so smooth and good it hit the spot right there and then. The sandwiches included falafel/spring onion/chili sauce/lettuce, vegan sliced cheese/caramelized red onion, roast mixed pepper/roast aubergine with pesto sauce, sliced cucumber/cashew nut butter, mushroom/sliced vegan cheese. YUM.
The hotel was quite peaceful and quiet inside which was a nice respite to the hustle and bustle outdoors. If you do want to go out in the area there are some amazing Chinese restaurants (I had the best soup noodles of my LIFE at Kam Tong – order the Roasted Duck & Pickled Cabbage Soup Noodles) or if you want to pick up a coffee there is the Urban Social Coffee shop which serves all sorts of amazing lattes including charcoal, turmeric and matcha. I had the charcoal latte and it was really delicious.
Also, if you stay at La Suite West you must have a walk through Hyde Park. Hyde Park is actually so big and expansive and it feels really calming on the mind to walk through if you have had enough of the hustle and bustle of the city.
I stayed in the Junior Suite at La Suite West and it was really nice. I loved the design and minimalist feel of the room – designed by famed British designer Anouska Hempel . It’s chic but comfortable. The bed is really soft and the room is lovely and warm. There is a large couch you can lounge on and the room is more than large enough for two people with a separate tea/coffee making facility and closet to put your clothes. There is also free WIFI and if you are feeling particularly luxurious you can even order a spa treatment such as a massage or facial to your room.
My favourite part about the room was that the TV slides up from the end of the bed via remote control so you can watch it at your leisure or put it away when it’s time for bed. Once you put it away it’s like it never existed, making it easier to drift off. The room was super quiet as well – I did not hear a peep from any other room making it easier to relax.
Another favourite part about the room was the heated floors in the bathroom and marble fixtures. Honestly the bathroom is an Instagram dream with all the white marble and sink. The floors feel like a dream with the heat on your feet and the shower is marvelous with a large power shower head. The shower is also pretty large so you can really do your thing – I gave myself a full body scrub and shaved my legs with no trouble for space at all.
The breakfast is also really good at the hotel with both veggie and vegan options. As I was travelling with a vegan, this makes all the difference in the world to have these options. It’s easy to find vegetarian food these days but vegan food is a whole other story. The breakfast is really delicious and you can either have it at the restaurant or even have it delivered to your room.
All in all, I would really recommend this hotel either for a staycation or London city break if you are staying in London from out of town. It’s quiet, chic and really conveniently-located to all the main London sites. There are lots of restaurants to choose from and the neighbourhood is also lovely.
