There is hardly anything better than a beach getaway. Sand, sun, swimming – need I say more? However, when it comes to packing for a holiday there are some items you just won’t be able to live without. Of course, sunscreen is a given – that’s for sure. I’ve rounded up my favourite new holiday beauty essentials here in this post. From self-tanning sheet masks to sunscreen spray – this is the best of the best and what to pack for a beach holiday – read on!
I am fully aware of the damaging effects of the sun so if I can get a natural glow without the damage then why not? That’s why the Masquebar Bronzing Self-Tanning Sheet Mask is so brilliant. Simply pop it on to cleansed skin for a few minutes for a nice holiday glow. A self-tanning sheet mask that also hydrates? It’s a must-have for your holiday essentials.
Aloe Vera is a fabulous hydrator to the skin so it’s no wonder that it’s the main ingredient in after-sun products. Putting aloe vera onto sunburned skin is a no-brainer. It instantly cools, soothes and hydrates parched skin. It’s easy to find after-sun body products but what about for the face? I love the MasqueBAR Aloe Vera Gel Mask for sunburn SOS. Simply pop onto cleansed skin that feels hot and flushed (leave on for 30 minutes) and experience the cooling relief it brings. A must-have for the beach bag.
When thinking about ageing it’s important to consider what you put onto your skin and also what you put inside. Nutrition is so important for skin health – sugar and fried foods won’t do you any favours. On holiday it’s easy to get lax about what you are eating and you may slip with your diet so it’s important that you are taking a multi-vitamin that supports skin health. Travel really takes it out of you and your skin so I’ve been loving the Imedeen Derm One tablets which contain zinc, vitamin C and polysaccharides that are found in the skin’s natural supportive structure. You won’t see an instant effect with these but after 3 months of use you will see a difference. All good things take time, after all.
If you are planning to be in the sun, then a fabulous supplement to take before you head on your holiday is the Perfectil Plus Protan. These contain copper which helps control pigmentation so if you are pigmentation prone like me (I’ve got melasma on my forehead so need to be super careful about sun protection). These tablets contain all the benefits of a normal multi-vitamin as well, so you can take these in place of your normal multivitamin. No need to pack extra!
I love everything about Sol de Janeiro – the brand just embodies fun! I LOVE illuminating oils for a holiday – they just give skin the extra glow you need and look fabulous on bronzed skin. I love the Sol de Janeiro Ipanema Sunset Glow Oil because it’s not too shimmery. It contains a subtle shimmer with some serious glow enhancement that is perfect massaged into legs and on tops of shoulders and décolletage. The oil itself smells like a dream and contains skin softening cupaçu butter, antioxidant rich acaí oil as well as conditioning coconut oil. It’s Brazil in a bottle or if you’ve never been, as close as you are going to get.
Going along the same lines as the Sol de Janeiro Ipanema Sunset Glow Oil there is also the Sol de Janeiro Copacabana Glow Oil which is a darker version of Ipanema Oil – it’s more golden while the Ipanema Oil has more of a champagne shimmer. Again, this is a beautiful oil to apply for a night out and to enhance bronzed skin because it gives the skin a naturally glowy look. And you can’t go wrong with that can you?
I LOVE hydration mists and I love to take them not only on the plane for a long-haul but also like to keep them by my desk at all times for a much-needed hydration boost when my skin feels stressed or parched. The Dr. Roebuck’s Bondi Hydrating Mist is a beautiful hydration mist that you can use on the hair, face and body. It contains Kakadu Plum (50x more Vitamin C than an orange), Aloe Vera (the magical hydrator), Cucumber and Vitamin B3 to keep your skin topped up with moisture while travelling. A great little beach bag addition too.
When my skin is behaving nicely and looks plumped and well-rested from a holiday I love to apply highlighter on the apples of my cheeks, tips of the nose and to the brow bone. The PIXI Glow-y Gossamer Duo in ‘Subtle Sunrise’ is beautiful because it gives a natural glow that doesn’t look like it came from a palette if you know what I mean. The powder is silky and blends perfectly into the skin so looks really natural. Goes great with a tan!
Pixi know how to make a fabulous eyeshadow and the Pixi Liquid Fairy Lights Eyeshadow in Sun Ray is perfect for a holiday in the sun because the colour is so fabulous shimmery and you can apply it like a gloss to the lids so it’s super easy for on-the-go application. The colour is super-pigmented so a little goes a long way and I love both Sun Ray and Rose Gold of which the colour payoff is exactly as you would imagine.
Obsession Make-up I’ve only recently been introduced to at a Boots event and I’ve been really impressed with the London Liquid Illuminator. This is a liquid illuminator so you can either use it alone on top of foundation for a fabulous glow or mix it into your foundation for a more all-over glow boost. You can even add a few drops into your body lotion!
Gone are the days of gloopy sunscreen that leaves skin greasy with lots of streaky white marks. Sunscreen is one of those products that year after year impresses me due to the innovation – it’s incredible and there is now no excuse for not using sun protection. I love a dry oil sunscreen product to take with me on holiday and the Bioderma Photoderm Bronz Dry Oil SPF50+ is a fabulous product that you can spray on with no greasy feeling left behind. I always use a SPF 50+ on my skin every day and I’m especially vigilant when it comes to sun exposure. This sunscreen also contains Vitamin E that helps combat radiation – how good is that?
You may wonder why you need an after-sun shower gel after you have been in the sun and sea all day but Institut Esthederm Micellar After Sun Shower Gel has been specifically formulated to wash away all traces of salt, sand, sea and sunscreen from the face and body. Not only that it soothes inflammation and you can use it both for the face and body so it saves on packing space!
Again, you simply cannot beat a mist for quick hydration. I just got back from South Korea which was extremely humid and I couldn’t think of anything nicer in that heat than a cooling mist. The Institut Esthederm Cellular Water Mist both refreshes and brightens the skin and the amazing thing is that it also contains the same levels of natural moisture found in skin. You can use it as a make-up setting spray as well to ensure your make-up doesn’t slide off in the heat!
As I said before, travelling (especially long-haul) really takes it out of the skin. My skin always looks dull and dehydrated after a long-haul flight and it takes a couple of days for it to recover. The Skyn Iceland Glacial Spray Lotion contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients that help calm and stabilize the complexion. Travelling can really put everything out of whack and I always break out in a few spots when I land so this lovely spritz will really help to balance my skin when I travel.
This stunning mist smells incredible and is full of hydrating ingredients such as rosewater (my favourite), aloe vera and cucumber juices so this is a fabulous mist to take with you on your holiday to keep the skin refreshed and balanced. Take it with you on the plane, in your beach bag and to spritz on your skin in your air-conditioned hotel room (because we all know air-con really sucks the moisture out of the skin).
I love lip balm – seriously I am addicted. I especially love anything with papaya (otherwise known as paw paw in Australia) so was super happy that the PURE Papaya Ointment landed on my beauty desk which contains fermented paw paw and therefore has lots of Vitamin A and C. You can use it for not just lips but also for bug bites, burns, dry skin or skin rash so it’s definitely a hero product you need to take with you on your holidays for multiple purposes!
