Sometimes it’s fun to have a weekend getaway in the city with your best girls. Book in a glitzy hotel, eat out at amazing restaurants, drink cocktails and order breakfast in bed right? Well that’s exactly what I did a couple of weeks ago with Mona from Mona’s Eyes Beauty. First off, I love a London staycation and this time we headed for a weekend in Mayfair, on Park Lane to be exact.
Our weekend in Mayfair began at the 5-Star JW Marriott Grosvenor House London on Park Lane with a gorgeous afternoon tea in the Park Room. We just so happened to be at Grosvenor House London for their 90th anniversary on Park Lane so it was perfect timing. The heritage of some of the London hotels is incredible and the Grosvenor House in particular is quite amazing with distinguished guests ranging from Obama to Walt Disney. We also wanted to be centrally located and Grosvenor House is just a hop, skip and jump away from Hyde Park, Oxford Street and Buckingham Palace.
Afternoon tea is the perfect girls outing and if you are visiting the capital and looking for the best afternoon tea in London, then the afternoon tea in the Park Room at the Grosvenor House is lovely. You can overlook Hyde Park whist sipping on a glass of rosé champagne and eat cakes – I mean, it doesn’t get much better than that in terms of afternoon tea right? And for a weekend in Mayfair, it’s must-do.
I genuinely think that the scones they served were some of the best I’ve ever had and we tasted so many different kinds of jam ranging from gooseberry to rhubarb & ginger, it was hard not to be pleased. The tea selection is also incredible with a wide range of rare and exotic teas to your firm favourites.
And whilst you dine to your heart’s content on mini sandwiches and sip exotic tea, there’s a pianist who performs during the day which create a relaxing ambience. So if you want the quintessential British afternoon tea experience and to show off your afternoon tea etiquette then the Park Room is a great choice. Also not to miss if you stay at the Grosvenor House London is the famous cheesecake, loved by many.
The rooms at the Grosvenor House London are also superb and again the hotel is a great jumping off point for nightlife and shopping in Mayfair. We stayed in a Premium Executive Suite which was beautiful, with the comfiest beds, marble bathrooms and access to the Executive Lounge which serves food and drinks (complimentary wine and sparkling wine) all through the day so if you get hungry or want a drink, you can pop down to the lounge at any time to get something.
The next morning, Mona and I were both pleasantly pleased about how nice the quality of sleep was in our room at the Grosvenor House London. The beds are super comfy and it’s just so quiet which is hard to pull off in central London. We considered going downstairs for breakfast but since this was the ultimate girls weekend well it made complete sense to order breakfast in bed. It’s not an indulgence that you get every day and if you do stay at the Grosvenor House London I would highly recommend the room service breakfast. The food arrived hot and fresh and even my coffee was piping hot when it came to the room (how did they do that?).
There are so many choices for breakfast in bed – you can get pretty much whatever you want. I picked my favourites which were two poached eggs on smashed avocado and toast with a side of fresh berries, a green juice and an almond milk latte. Everything was delicious and fresh and if you get a chance to order the room service breakfast – DO IT.
The staff at the hotel are also very professional and attentive so if you need that New York Times delivered to your door, they will do that. Check-out is a leisurely noon so if you want to have that lie-in you can or if you want to go for an early morning walk in Hyde Park (recommended) you can do that too!
In my travel features I also always like to touch on one or two must-pack items that I’m loving lately. We took loads of pictures in the room as you can see and I cannot recommend enough if you are going away for the weekend to take a Joi Spotlite HD Mirror. I’m obsessed with it! It packs away really nicely in a suitcase – it’s about the same size as a small laptop.
The mirror offers ultra-bright ‘true’ daylight in hotels where the light tends to be more yellow-based in the bathrooms, therefore the mirror is a nice addition to have when doing your beauty routine. The most genius thing about it? It’s got a built-in smartphone holder so you can actually mount your smartphone onto the mirror, making it perfect for actually watching YouTube make-up tutorials where you can actually recreate the look yourself.
It’s also got a storage tray so you can pack away minis of your make-up in it and you can rotate it to be handheld if you need or you can actually mount it to a wall – honestly genius. I’ll be taking this everywhere with me from now on.
So if you are looking for a London staycation, the best afternoon tea in London or a weekend in Mayfair so what are you waiting for? Call your bestie and book a girls day or weekend away – life’s too short, after all. And if you are looking for the best restaurants in Mayfair make sure to read my feature on that too!
