I don’t know about you but if you are reading this post about the best skincare routine I assume you take your beauty routine seriously! And when you are serious about beauty, it means you love it. There’s a lot of joy in a bit of self-care and there’s something about a skincare routine which is joyful – because you are actually looking after your skin. It’s something that everyone sees, after all. It’s your face, your money-maker or whatever you want to call it but it’s something that when you look after it, it looks after you. A good skincare routine is kind of like going to the gym. It’s not something you can do once and expect miracles to happen but it’s a labour of love and self-care over time where you will then see the real results.
Talking about the best skincare routine, I actually love to wash my face. For me it’s a way to take off the day – very much like coming home and taking off your bra and putting on your favourite PJs because you are settling in for the night. For me, cleansing my skin feels like that. All the make-up, the oil, the grime, the pollution from the day comes off and then it’s just me and my skin.
I’ve just started using the Image Skincare ILUMA Intense Brightening Cleanser and trust me, it’s a real treat. When you put it onto your fingertips it actually feels like a very velvety primer. This is a gel cleanser that emulsifies when in contact with water so the best way is to apply to dry skin and really massage away first, loosening all the make-up and oil from the skin. Once you feel like you’ve really massaged it in, I add a little water and the formula instantly emulsifies into a milky consistency. I massage in a little bit more and then rinse it all away. The Image Skincare products have an incredible scent to them as well – like fresh oranges. The scent feels uplifting as well, waking you up if you are tired first thing in the morning or at the very end of the day.
Not only is the scent amazing but this cleanser also works on evening out the skin tone. I actually suffer from melasma on my forehead and I’ve worked really hard to clear it through a series of TCA peels over a full year. However, I now have to be really careful that it doesn’t come back or get worse, hence I’m always looking for products that tackle dark spots or discoloration.
I always do a double cleanse in the evening so follow that with another bit of the ILUMA cleanser over the face, massaged in and then rinsed away. If you are also looking for exfoliation, a product you can add either into the ILUMA cleanser or use on its own after cleansing is the Image Skincare AGELESS Total Resurfacing Masque. Now this my friends is no wimpy scrub (I do not like wimpy scrubs). It combines both manual and enzyme exfoliation in one product which is the BEST combination because it ensures that what you didn’t managed to scrub off gets eaten away by the AHAs and vice-versa. I also like the fact that the scrub contains micro-crystals which are very fine so they really loosen the dead skin cells and leave your skin feeling baby smooth – no joke.
I like to exfoliate my skin 2-3 times per week because I also think that when your skin is exfoliated then the products that follow penetrate better so you get better results from your skincare. Also don’t forget your neck or décolletage! I had a facial recently and the facialist told me I must look after my neck area more so I’m focusing on exfoliating that area as well now.
The other thing about this mask is that you can also leave it on for anywhere from 5 minutes to half an hour to really take advantage of those AHAs munching away at those dead skin cells. That’s what is going to give you that GLOW. So, if you use it on its own and not in combination with the ILUMA cleanser you can simply apply a thin layer to the face and neck and leave on anywhere between 5 and 30 minutes and then add a bit of warm water to your fingertips to give one final scrub before rinsing off after your time is up. And then voilà – baby, smooth skin.
Now your skin is truly prepped and ready for some HYDRATION. When I have a bit of extra time, I love to indulge in a sheet mask. Sheet masks are great because they stop trans-epidermal moisture loss from the skin so in fact, they stop serums from evaporating into the air. By using a sheet mask, you really trap in the serum so that it has time to fully sink in. That’s why skin often feels so nice and plump after a face mask. Yes, there is more product that you put on your skin but the magic is also in the application of the sheet mask itself so you can really lock in that moisture.
I am LOVING the Image Skincare I MASK Hydrating Hydrogel Sheet Mask – if your skin needs a bit of extra TLC then this is your mask. I especially like to take these travelling because when I fly the cabin air really dehydrates my skin. It’s not a myth – cabin air in planes is dryer than the desert. So really putting moisture back into my skin post-flight is always much-needed. The I MASK Hydrating Hydrogel Sheet Mask contains our best friend hyaluronic acid as well as mineral-rich water.
People get nervous about the word acid but hyaluronic is actually a water molecule that attracts water from the environment into your skin. It’s like a magnet – but for hydration. And your skin loses it as you age, hence we need to maintain the levels. This mask is also cooling and soothing, which again is why I like to use it post-flight. It contains aloe vera, antioxidant extracts and amino acids – like a very healthy sports drink – but for your skin. The mask’s design is also meant to grip your face so no slipping and sliding with this one. Also, you can use this mask if you don’t have much time to spare – 5 minutes is enough. But if you really want the full benefits, 15 minutes is recommended.
Once you’ve used the I Mask and your skin feels nicely hydrated you can then follow with the Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Anti-Ageing Serum. Vitamin C and hyaluronic work together like best friends so this serum is amazing after the I Mask. And I must say this is another one of Image Skincare products that smells like freshly-pressed orange juice. Vitamin C is amazing, really. It’s an antioxidant so it helps to combat signs of ageing and support collagen synthesis (another one of those pesky things we lose over time). I love the fact it sinks in like a dream and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy! You can use it both morning and night because during the day it will help protect and at night it will help repair – that’s the great thing about Vitamin C! You need it if you are after the best skincare routine as well.
And finally, we get to the last step to help you get glowing skin which is the Image Skincare ORMEDIC Balancing Bio-Peptide Crème. I absolutely love the consistency of this cream; it feels like a dream going on – rich and cushiony and plumping on the skin. This is another great one for tired skin because it’s a repair cream that really nourishes the skin with botanical butters, hyaluronic acid and organic plant oils. And of course peptides, which skin loves. When you use all these products in combination, honestly your skin feels SO plump and so dewy.
And last but not least (although I don’t have images of these) you can also extend your skincare into your make-up. I never wear make-up that doesn’t have a skincare benefit, right down to my everyday powder and mascara! I want everything on my face to be an extension of my skincare and even my make-up I want working hard for me. Because it is a tough world out there on the skin, after all. I don’t use very many make-up products but I love the Image Skincare I Prime Flawless Blur Gel which is a velvety primer that blurs imperfections. I like that it has antioxidants, botanicals and plant-derived stem cells which act as an extension of your skincare!
To face the day, you can try the Image Skincare I Conceal Flawless Foundation which I was introduced to at a previous event. This is a mineral foundation that blends really nicely into the skin without it feeling like you have much on. It hides enough and gives enough coverage but also feels natural at the same time. And it has SPF 30 and if there’s one skincare tip that I’ve learned, it’s never ever go without SPF!
What products do you consider a part of your best skincare routine?
