I get really excited when I discover new brands – especially when the new brand has natural, botanical-based skincare products that are really effective. Abotaniq is such a brand, one that comes from New York and offers anti-ageing solutions for skin using supercharged natural ingredients.
Abotaniq offers a wide range of solutions for various skin issues including hyperpigmentation, firming, skin brightening and anti-ageing. Pretty much anything you can think of Abotaniq will have a solution for!
For me, I am just starting to notice some hyperpigmentation issues that are cropping up on my skin. Was this from sun exposure as a teenager? Not sure but suddenly, in my 30s I am getting blotchy skin and dare I say, what looks like age spots/hyperpigmentation. So needless to say I want to tackle these issues before they get worse (why didn’t I wear that sunscreen?)!
So for me in particular, when looking at Abotaniq’s solution-driven skincare ranges, I went for the skin brightening products. And when you want to brighten your skin’s appearance you turn to none other than Vitamin C.
The Abotaniq Vitamin C Serum is a radiance-boosting treatment that contains a 10% level of Vitamin C. Now 10% is quite strong which means that this is really going to work hard at busting any dullness. The serum is quite thick, almost like honey but it spreads really easy once you warm it up in your hands and it doesn’t take much to cover the face and neck. Not only does it brighten but also protects against free radical damage, stimulates collagen production. I’ve been using it day and night for several weeks (a little goes a long way here) and have noticed that my skin looks indeed brighter. It’s also really great for those that live in the city because it will help protect against pollution and environmental damage to the skin.
For cleansing I have been using the Abotaniq Exfoliating Enzyme Scrub. This is really great because along with Papaya extract it helps remove dead and dull surface cells. By removing these cells and build-up, this will help your products sink in more effectively. I exfoliate in the evening before I put on serum so that it works better. It’s also great because you can use this as a mask as well. The Papaya enzymes will work to really remove those dead skin cells – a bit like a natural form of glycolic acid so that skin appears brighter and smoother. I also found this scrub to be of a good consistency – not too harsh and not too weak. The exfoliant has just enough power to remove dead skin cells without being too abrasive.
The Abotaniq Brightening Night Cream is the next superhero in the fight against dullness and hyperpigmentation. The cream is lightweight but not greasy or too heavy. It’s great for those like me who might just be starting to see dark spots appear and who want to tackle them as soon as possible. So what does it contain that helps to brighten the skin? Well, there is quite a lot! There are yeast amino acids, tyrosinase inhibitors and peptides which work together to help brighten the skin. Licorice Extract is the main tyrosinase inhibitor and helps to prevent and treat dark spots.
The cream contains a whole host of interesting ingredients including:
• White Lotus Flower Extract – Helps repair, calm and brighten skin
• Super Calming Complex – A super complex, containing Arnica, Salomon’s Seal, Cypress Nut and Malt Extracts, and inhibits blotchiness, promoting the healthy maintenance of micro-circulation and a more even toned complexion.
• Glucosamine – Helps reduce the amount of melanin in skin cells, so there is less excess pigment in the skin that can cause age spots.
• Vitamins A, C & E – Antioxidant vitamins that help to protect cells from free radical damage.
And last but not least in the fight against dark spots there is the Abotaniq Dark Spot Diminisher. This is a targeted spot treatment that you apply directly to the dark spots or to traces of past blemishes. Here is where I have trouble – it’s those traces of past blemishes that really get me these days and I swear some of them turn into dark spots. So it’s great that there is this spot treatment that actually treats those. You apply this after cleansing and before moisturising. This little spot treatment is fantastic. I love it for its simplicity, ease and effectiveness.
