There is no better way to evoke the feeling of a place than through scent. Scent is really personal – it reminds us of special places and people – it’s essentially connected to memories. That is the thinking behind an exclusive new range of products from the Wilnelia Forsyth London brand.
The range was created by Lady Wilnelia Forsyth and is a very personal one as it is based on scent memories. Wilnelia has launched a range of beautiful and luxurious candles that have been created with the Caribbean in mind (inspired by her childhood). The candle holders are illustrated with lovely scenes of colonial San Juan, Puerto Rico – they are bright and cheerful and seem to glow from within due to the coloured glass and illustrations. They actually make you feel quite uplifted when looking at them and the smells will have you dreaming of your next beach holiday.
The candles are really unique because of the packaging with their illustrations and colours. You can consider them as a piece of functional art and long after the candle is gone you will be able to keep the jars to hold trinkets in. Because of the beautiful artwork on the packaging, these can be kept instead of thrown away like other candles, once the last of the wax is gone.
And of course not only is the packaging and illustrations beautiful but the scents are gorgeous too! Sunshine in a jar perhaps to soothe you on a rainy day. Each candle is named after a scent, a flower or a memory. They are also entirely hand-poured, made with a premium 100% natural blend and have a high proportion of natural oils.
I’ve got the Valle de Collores which contains notes of sea breeze (see I told you that you would be dreaming of your next beach holiday!), bergamot and oceanic notes. This really evokes seaside life and smells amazing, from the moment you open the box.
Valle de Collores is inspired by a famous Puerto Rican poem written in the 1950s that describes the beauty of people and their longing to return to their beloved homeland after exploring the world. I can think a lot of people who love to travel can relate to this beautiful poem. It’s hard to appreciate what you have until you have explored everything else. Wilnelia wanted this candle to be translated into scent with its warm ocean breezes and alluring scent of the Caribbean Islands.
There are five other candles in the collection and something to suit everyone. Just make sure you have your beach holiday booked if you plan to buy!
A percentage of the profits will go to the Wilnelia Forsyth Foundation, a non-profit organisation established in 1994, working to improve healthcare and education for children in Puerto Rico.
The range is available exclusively at Fortnum & Mason and cost £48 each.
