I love an Asian beauty trend! I lived in Japan for four years and have also spent many months travelling around China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia (both Bali and Borneo) and many more! So Asian beauty trends always catch my eye because I am invested in the area and have spent so much time there. Needless to say I was really excited when I found some interesting products from Asia and elsewhere had made their way to BeautyMart here in the UK.
I honestly love BeautyMart because I see them as a curated collector of fun and quirky brands from cult-classics to new entries. Many of the brands are hard to find in the UK and so BeautyMart has stepped in to become a stockist of so many cool, trendy and up-and-coming brands. I’ve chosen a few of my favourites from Asia and elsewhere in this post so read on!
First up is the Romantic Bear Long Lasting Lip Color in Sweet Orange. I love the pop-art packaging and Romantic Bear was a brand I had never heard of until I browsed the BeautyMart site. This Lip Color is so interesting and fun to use! It goes on like a gel gloss and you leave it on for 10 minutes and then literally peel it off. This puts the fun back into make-up and I am a real sucker for lip products anyways. Once you peel it off it leaves an incredible natural stain that lasts forever and ever. Just be careful not to get it on your teeth!
Next up are these very interesting hair clips which are called the Korean Fringe Stabilizer on the BeautyMart site although the characters look Japanese and the brand looks to be manufactured in China so these are probably popular in Japan, China and Korea I am guessing! These are really clever – they grab onto hair and pull it back so it doesn’t get in the way while you apply your make-up. I am forever getting foundation in my hair or moisturiser in my strands which naturally makes the hair around my face look greasy (major fail) so these are handy little things!
I am a sponge addict that’s for sure and have to say that this Barely Cosmetics Definer Sponge (Soft) is the best sponge I’ve ever used. Its many angles give it access to hard-to-reach spots like the inner corners of the eyes, between the brows and around the nose. It blends well and I think for me personally I like this sponge because of the way it allows me to blend under-eye concealer which I always have a hard time doing! You are supposed to use it damp so it doesn’t absorb your product as most sponges will soak up and waste 60% of your product so use it damp!
Barely was founded by Hollywood-trained make-up artist Nicole McEvoy, a M.A.C. Pro Artist with a background in cosmetics brand retail.
The next product is also one of my faves that I have found on BeautyMart! I love this Etude House Tint My Brows Gel. Etude House is a hugely popular Korean brand and one that I absolutely LOVE for its girly girl packaging (think Anna Sui) and doll-house feel. This is a brow tint gel and what you do is apply it onto your brow, painting on your ideal shape. Let it sit for two hours and then peel it off! It really does tint your brows in the coolest way! The technology is the same as a self-tan so this is a temporary effect. I left mine over night to increase the colour and depth of the tint and it was fabulous!
As you can see below the formula is a gel base and easy to apply. This colour was actually very suitable for my brows which are medium brown.
And even after leaving on my hand for a few minutes you can see the stain below that it leaves so this allows you to ‘fill in’ your brows quite naturally!
One thing about Asian beauty trends and especially the Korean trends is that they keep it fun! This Pig Nose Clear 3-step kit is a prime example. There is no beating around the bush with the intended meaning of this one! This brand is a fun one from Korea called Holika Holika. The separate packs contain 3 different nose masks for blackhead removal. Step One softens sebum plugs with sage, mistletoe and peppermint. Step Two draws out the blackheads with kaolin clay and lemon extract and Step Three is a gel mask that soothes with anise lime grape and aloe. Living in London, I find that sometimes my pores simply look dirty if I have been exposed to pollution so this is a nifty little mask to target ‘dirty’ pores!
Last but certainly not least is the Korean Spa Magic Peeling Mitt! This is an exfoliating mitt that Koreans use in the spas. One side has terry cloth so it’s gentle to skin for cleansing and the other side has an exfoliating pad so is great for exfoliating. This is perfect for pre-self-tan prep as well because you can be sure that you are removing all that dead skin to leave your limbs super smooth! It’s also great for circulation because you can use this in the same way as a dry body brush to help move toxins out and increase circulation, especially in the legs.
So that’s all my picks for now but you can rest assured I’m keeping my eye out for more!
