Unwanted hairs. No one likes those right? And for me waxing is just not very fun so I try to avoid it whenever possible! I have a seriously low pain threshold and can barely handle an eyebrow threading session let alone get my bikini line waxed. So how do you get rid of unwanted hairs but avoid the painful waxing sessions (which you have to keep going to anyways)? Hint: it’s at home IPL and in walks the gorgeous Philips Lumea Prestige IPL tool to the rescue!
Literally this little device is amazing. It’s portable, lightweight and you can fit it and all of the attachments in a little pouch. I really love Philips beauty products – they bring tech, convenience and beauty all together with an impressive range of tools.
So what is IPL? IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light and basically what this tool does is apply gentle pulses to the hair root which deadens the hair root so the hair no longer grows. Over time, less and less unwanted hair grows and then it is gone completely! So for those embarrassing areas – yes I’m talking bikini line, underarms, upper lip and chin – this will target those too.
The Philips Lumea Prestige is a cordless IPL tool and its completely safe to use at home. With salon IPL treatments in the thousands sometimes this is actually a very cost effective tool. Like most Phillips products, this does not come cheap but if you are looking to do IPL anyways and were going to pay hundreds at the salon then I would certainly recommend this at-home device to you. There is also the time-saving factor that needs to be highlighted here. To get to a salon, get prepped and then get home is like 3 hours of your life gone. These days I think of everything in terms of time so if there is a device that can save me time in the long run, then I go for it.
You can use this device anywhere and I mean anywhere! It comes with three different attachments – one for the face area (think chin and upper lip), another attachment for specialised areas such as the bikini area and a third attachment for fast application and for large areas like legs (imagine never having to shave your legs again?!). There are five adjustable light energy settings on the device which you can play around with to see which one you feel the most comfortable with.
I love, love the facial attachment and as I said you can safely use this on the upper lip, chin and sideburns. Philips clinical studies have show significant hair reduction in as little as four fortnightly treatments resulting in smooth hair free skin. To maintain these results, simply repeat the treatment when needed. Time between treatments may vary based on your individual hair regrowth.
Just to note that this tool is suitable for many skin types and hair types however it is not effective on red, light-blonde or white/grey hair and not suitable for very dark skin.
I will be doing a further post on this deeper into my hair-free treatment and will update you with the results later!
