Seasonality: The Fall Beauty Edit

Recently I’ve become obsessed with the Scandinavian concept of ‘Hygge’ which basically means you stay inside and snuggle up to keep out of the cold! Seasonality is a big trend that we will be seeing in the seasons to come where the entire skincare regime changes with the season. I agree that due to the colder weather and dryer air inside, I’ve embraced this trend and am seeking products that comfort and treat – inside. I’ve pulled together some products that are helping me to do that so here you have it – Seasonality: the Fall Beauty Edit.

Samaya Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil (Kapha)

I love switching to oils in the colder months – I just find them so much more nourishing and caring for my skin. I’ve been using the Samaya Hydrating Cleanser (Kapha) which I’ve spoken about HERE and have really loved this lovely range which I feel is just perfect for the colder months. I’ve been really lucky to get to try the Samaya Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil (Kapha) as well which I have found to be a joy to use in these darker days. It smells amazing and it’s just as much about the ritual of putting it on as the benefits it contains.

To explain about Samaya, it’s an all-natural skincare brand based on Ayurvedic principles which is all about balance. Ayurveda is based on the belief that in order to achieve and maintain balance, we should pay attention to our lifestyle as a whole. To do this, first we must establish our dosha type. You have to answer a series of questions on the Samaya site which then determines your dosh and a specific range is recommended for you. As I am a Kapha (other dosha types are Pitta and Vata), I was recommended the Kapha range.

The Kapha Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil contains a concentrated blend of Ayurvedic botanicals which targets wrinkles. The Ayurvedic infusions include Ashwagandha, Sandalwood, Vetivert and Frankincense which smells amazing. I like to use this product at night before going to bed as the scent is really calming.

Samaya Anti-Ageing Cream (Kapha)

Following the Kapha Anti-Ageing Treatment Oil, I have the Kapha Anti-Ageing Cream. This is the icing on the cake with proven anti-ageing ingredients. The cream has a lovely texture, feels great on the skin and again it smells amazing. Everything is natural and full of pure goodness. The cream tackles wrinkles and loss of volume. I tend to get more deflated skin in the colder months so this is a lovely cream to help boost and plump the skin. I love that this contains both Sandalwood Oil (restorative, calming, mood-boosting with relaxing holistic effects) and Frankincense Oil (purifies skin, regenerates cells).  The Samaya products not only feel lovely on the skin but also smell amazing and are mood-boosting – perfect for winter.

Vichy Pore Purifying Clay Mask

There is nothing like a mask to really pull out the gunk from your skin. I live in London so there is pollution in the air and I like to do a weekly or bi-weekly clay mask to help pull some of it from my skin. This one from Vichy is really good and it also is very reasonably priced. The mask contains two types of fine white clays which penetrate into the skin’s surface to pull out sebum and impurities. I’ve been a big fan of Vichy for a couple of years now and I am so happy to see clay masks making a comeback because I  have been loving them for years.

Pure Elixir Smart Age Supplement

Okay so recently with the change of weather I’ve been feeling fatigued and tired – it happens every year and takes me a couple of weeks to adjust. I’ve been trying not only to focus on beauty on the outside but beauty on the inside as well which is just as important if not more important! I have tried a range of skin supplements and am a big fan of them and have recently tried Pure Elixir which is a skin supplement that helps you attain visibly brighter and smoother skin. Now I am always a bit cynical about these things but actually I have noticed that my skin does look brighter (I’ve been using these for about a month) and the pigmentation on my cheeks does not look as pronounced.

Pure Elixir when tested on people was shown to reduce lines and wrinkles by up to 23% after 8 weeks which is quite amazing. My skin does look better and the fine lines around my eyes do seem lessened.

Ole Henriksen Nurture Me Cleansing Cloths

I love a cleansing cloth for travel or for on-the-go make-up changes. These Ole Henricksen ones are really lovely and soft (I hate a rough cloth) and actually do remove make-up. While I wouldn’t substitute my normal cleansing routine for a cleansing cloth I do think these are brilliant for travel (on the plane freshen up) and sometimes even in the morning if you are just in a hurry. Skin is usually not that dirty in the morning (sans make-up) so a cloth should do the job.

La Roche Posay Toleraine 3-Step System for Sensitive Skin

I’ve been a big fan of La Roche Posay for a couple of years now – it’s one of my favourite French pharmacy brands. Skin can get a bit more sensitive during seasonal changes so if you are having problems with your skin this 3-Step System for Sensitive Skin is quite good. It helps to balance skin and doesn’t have any harsh chemicals or additives – ideal! The Kit Contains Effaclar Duo+ (40ml) which helps to fight the appearance of blemishes, Effaclar Clarifying Toner (200ml) which minimizes the look of pores and Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel (125ml) which is a facial wash especially for oily skin which can also be used as a body wash (multi-tasker alert!).

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

The Ordinary is a brand that has just launched and has all sorts of very reasonably priced and honest products that look much more expensive than they are and also perform well! I’m talking high performance serums for around a fiver!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

Skin loses moisture in the dryer winter conditions so I like to supplement with The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5. The formula of this is very clever and I love how the brand explains everything to you in a no-nonsense way. The brand explains that the molecular size of HA ‘determines its depth of delivery in the skin. This formulation combines low, medium and high-molecular weight HA, as well as a next-generation HA crosspolymer at a combined concentration of 2% for multi-depth hydration in an oil-free formula. This HA system is supported with the addition of Vitamin B5 which also enhances surface hydration.’ I think a hyaluronic acid serum is great to use in winter and if you are looking for a good one at a good price then this is your guy.

The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc PCA 1%

The Ordinary has made my list twice! The next product I like is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%. This is a fantastic product if you suffer from skin that tends to break out. Mine tends to break out hormonally and gets congested from pollution. Niacinamide – Vitamin B3 – helps to the appearance of skin blemishes and congestion. This formula helps to control sebum and clear congested skin – I’ve been using this around the time I know I am about to experience a breakout!

Billion Dollar Smile Teeth Whitening Kit

Constant hot drinks like tea and coffee can really do a number on your teeth. I like to whiten mine every so often to keep them looking nice and white. I recently used the Billion Dollar Smile Teeth Whitening Kit while on holiday and was really impressed by the results. The fact that it comes with an LED light means that you will get that extra bit of whitening from what you will get by only using whitening strips. The LED light actually helps to accelerate the whole processing and I didn’t feel any teeth sensitivity from this either which was a huge bonus! It’s fine for sensitive teeth and also enamel friendly as well.
