Cities. They’re big. They’re bad. And they’re full of pollution. My skin got so much worse after I moved to a big city and it’s no surprise as pollution can cause a whole load of skincare ailments such as pigmentation, dehydration, accelerated ageing, age spots, etc. The list goes on and on. So it’s really important to do whatever you can to help protect your skin against pollution. Here are some great skincare products you need if you live in a city that are truly worth investing in if you are up for the fight against pollution on your skin.
Five Great Skincare Products You Need If You Live In A City
I talk so much about protecting your skin against pollution because I have found since I have moved to London a whole host of skincare ailments that I never suffered from before have it me. Perhaps it’s also age but I do think pollution has played its part as well with my recent diagnosis of melasma (hyperpigmentation) so I do try and protect my skin if it is going to be exposed to the outside city environment. This includes walking along a busy street to catch the bus, popping out on my lunch break, etc.
Any outside exposure needs to be planned for and one product that I have recently been using is the Institut Esthederm City Protect Incellum Spray. This is a brilliant spray that envelops your skin in an invisible shield against environmental and urban stressors including sun, pollution and free radicals. Basically all of the above and a must-have product if you live in the city. You can also brilliantly I may add – apply this to hair, face and body too! Simply spritz over make-up, hair or body on the way out the door.
This is the top dog of all serums and one that was specifically recommended to me by a dermatologist. As recommended he said to use an antioxidant serum during the day to combat all those environmental aggressors and in the night an oil or a retinol for rest/repair. So for a daytime serum this one is pretty dang good because it packs a punch when it comes to shielding your skin from all those nasties. So what is it? It’s a Vitamin C serum that absorbs faster than a New York minute whose formula contains an impressive antioxidant blend of 15% Pure Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid), 1% Vitamin E (Alpha Tocopherol) and 0.5% Ferulic Acid.
If you live in a big, bad city it’s worth investing in this little rock star because it acts as an invisible shield to protect against free radicals, pollution and radiation – all which contribute to premature ageing. I’m already on my second bottle.
You know sometimes when you just need a good serum that plumps and delivers in the most effective way possible with no extra fuss? Well that’s exactly what the Alpha H Vitamin E Serum with Macadamia does. This is a great serum if you feel like you need a moisture boost and if you have that kind of dry, thirsty skin that needs a good long drink. The serum does just that along with soothing and healing damaged skin cells and protecting against free radicals (which we all need BTW). Free radicals are out to get everyone, people.
The added benefit of Macadamia makes this a truly Aussie product from this much-loved Australian beauty brand and what Macadamia does is help to reduce scarring from acne (hello sign me up!) and ease sunburn, bites etc. Basically this is a great all-rounder product that is both simple and effective in the often confusing world of beauty. Ahhh.
Everyone knows cult French pharmacy brand Bioderma – it used to be such a sought-after product on trips to Paris from the UK but now that it’s available here we can all say yay! This is the cult micellar water that started the trend and it’s great at removing make-up whilst still being gentle. I like to take this on trips away to give my skin a clean swipe after a long-haul flight. I also love to use it right after a long day out and about to quickly cleanse my skin if I am staying in for the evening. You don’t want that dirt and pollution from outside sitting on your skin for any longer than you need to. It’s quick and simple and makes cleansing super easy! It also doesn’t disrupt the skin’s pH balance which means it’s a real winner and great for sensitive skin too.
I’m sorry but you just can’t go wrong with Skinceuticals. The products just work – it’s as simple as that. The brand remains my favourite cosmeceutical brand to this day whose products pack a punch. Yes they are expensive. Yes they are worth it. The Redness Neutralizer is a very normal name to a product that uses a combination of biomimetic peptides and soothing natural plant ingredients to help combat redness trigged by environmental factors. I’m talking about flushed, itchy, burning, red skin that might be either chapped or irritated. If you need convincing just go to their website and look at the before/after pictures. Impressive my friends, very impressive.
