2017 you’ve been a killer year for beauty – full of innovation, fun and creativity. Let’s just say 2018 – you got a lot to live up to! Here are some of my favourite recent launches of 2017 – let’s call it my beauty wrap up for 2017.
Getting acne as an adult just sucks. I mean it was bad enough as a teen! One of my favourite brands however, SkinCeuticals has launched the new Blemish + Age Defense which is brilliant for adults who still suffer from acne but also need to target wrinkles and uneven skin tone at the same time. When my skin goes through a rough patch I switch to acne products but then see my fine lines get worse because the acne products dry out my skin. So, you just can’t win! So, thank goodness someone has finally found a solution to target both blemishes and ageing at the same time. All I can say is, thank you SkinCeuticals.
If there is one beauty product I would recommend it would be a multi-purpose balm. And a great one is Babe Balm by Clean Beauty Co. You can use it as a highlighter (it’s brilliant to dab just under the eyes and on top of the cheekbones to soften fine lines under the eyes) or even as a cleanser (it works great in the mornings and leaves skin really soft). I even use it sometimes to just wipe under the eye if my mascara runs a bit. Of course, you can use it as a lip balm, for any rough patches or even as a cuticle cream. It’s got a nourishing formula of Kokum Butter, Monoi, Squalene, Hibiscus and Calendula and is 100% natural. It’s a perfect handbag hero!
Lipstick innovations really excite me and this is probably the most exciting one I’ve seen this year. Welcome lip powders to the scene! Clinique have been the first big brand I’ve seen that have brought this to the western market and think of a lip powder as an eyeshadow for the lips. It’s actually quite brilliant. The powder is weightless and leaves a PERFECT stain on the lips that looks so natural and fabulous that I can’t even make it up. The pigment is buildable as well so you can take this as light or dark as you want to, just like with eyeshadow. I am IN LOVE with these lip powders and think they might just be the best launch of the year. Try it for yourself and fall in love!
I was super intrigued to try the Ren Perfect Canvas after seeing it was a finishing serum, meaning that you put it on after moisturising and before make-up. So, think if it as a serum/primer hybrid which is actually quite fabulous. I like to dab it under the eyes and across areas that need smoothing. It really does work as well and probably better than a lot of primers that I’ve ever tried. Another fabulous launch and one to definitely try out!
Feeling stressed and it’s showing in your skin? That’s me all over! Well there is a specific serum that has been formulated just for stressed skin – skin that needs to detox or has been exposed to periods of high stress, pollution, hormonal changes, sun exposure, toxic lifestyle choices. Basically all of the above! I mean if you live in a big city it’s only natural that you are going to be exposed to quite a few of those things. It’s basically a formula that helps your skin take a pause from all of that and what it does is reinforces the skin’s lipid barrier so it’s stronger against attacks from external aggressors.
This is all about replenishment and building up the strength of the skin using microbiome technology – in other words probiotics. So if your skin has just about had enough (and it will after all those Christmas parties) then this might just be the formula for you to get back on track. It’s silky smooth and feels really soft on the skin – I’ve been using it as a serum underneath my normal moisturiser.
It’s hard to know what the right supplement to take when it comes to your skin, hair and nails. There are so many supplements and health products out there that target beauty and you have to be careful when looking to find the right product. Totally Derma is actually scientifically proven to increase collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. All of these things start to dwindle as we age and the body doesn’t produce enough to keep our skin looking supple until the end of time (I wish!).
Totally Derma is a daily ingestible skin drink which works internally and externally to boost collagen and hydration levels in the body. I have been taking a daily drink of this for the past three weeks and I have noticed that my hair feels a bit stronger and my skin looks brighter and more plumped. If you do suffer from loss of volume due to ageing then this is certainly a good beauty supplement to look into that has been tried and tested and recommended by doctors!
Have you tried any must-have products for 2017 that you think could have made the cut? Let me know!
