Is it possible to be hair depressed? Recently I’ve been feeling down about my hair – it just looked so lifeless and lank. I’ve also been finding that even though I was washing it frequently, it looked greasy. And when it starts to look like that I know it’s time for a refresh. And that’s exactly what I did – by heading to Blue Tit London.
For my refresh I headed to Blue Tit London, a hip salon who have several cool locations across London. I went to the East Village location, near Stratford station. I’ve written about Blue Tit before (HERE) and I love the décor and vibe of the salon – it’s ultra-cool.
I was looking for a cut, colour refresh and also an Olaplex treatment. I told the hairdresser, Naoya, what I was looking for and he recommended a blunt cut just above the shoulders, all one length. He said if it was all one length it would look thicker and also would grow out better. I don’t often refresh my hair – about once every six months – so I need a cut that grows out well. He recommended the blunt, one-length cut because a choppier, layered cut is harder to grow out – i.e. it loses it shape faster.
For the colour, he recommended face-framing highlights and a general lightened look. I had bayalage which had grown out for some time and the top being so dark only made my hair look greasy at times so I was all for bringing the colour closer to the top but not too far up so as to make it difficult to grow out.
We did the colour first which took about 40 minutes. With the colour treatment Naoya added in Olaplex, which actually repairs hair while it’s being coloured, reducing the damage from the treatment and also repairing at the same time. I mean, how good is that? If you do go to a salon and get a colour treatment I would highly suggest you ask for Olaplex at the same time. Think of it as hair insurance.
What is added into the colour is the Olaplex Bond Multiplier which is step 1 in the 3 step Olaplex treatment. This concentrated first salon step ‘rebuilds broken disulfide bonds and begins the process of preventing damage and repairing hair.’
Once the colour was rinsed out we moved to Olaplex step #2 which is the Bond Perfector. This is applied to hair and left on after all the colour is shampooed out of the hair. This just ensures that any remaining broken hair bonds are restored. Once my Olaplex step 2 was complete it was time for the cut. Naoya was super-fast and did exactly as he said, cutting my hair just above the shoulders and all one length.
20 minutes later I was a new woman! If you are thinking of getting hair refresh definitely head to Blue Tit London as their hair team are fabulous and the salon itself is Instagram heaven. And definitely ask for an Olaplex treatment to protect and repair your hair. You will be so glad you did!
The last step of the Olaplex treatment comes in a take home formula which is called the Hair Perfecter. This is a mask you use once a week just to prevent further damage to the hair. All in all, genius!
