Urban Skincare: The Best Products for City Living

Urban living is hard on the skin. The pollution seeps into our pores, going some places skincare can’t even go. The lack of sun makes us insufficient in Vitamin D which we also need to look our best and things like traffic exhaust has a knock on effect because we breathe it in day to day and it does affect our skin. Not to mention higher stress levels in the city. But I’m not trying to be depressing here or anything because there are ways to minimise this damage that is caused to our skin by urban living with urban skincare – skincare targeted towards skin exposed to pollutants and stress. Here are some of my favourite ride or die products I’ve been swearing by lately.

Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum

Eyes tend to show the first signs of ageing and it starts at the corners with fine lines. I’ve been battling mine with the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum. I can’t try every product I am sent because it is physically impossible but when I saw this I grabbed it and immediately applied under my eyes and on the lids. Why? Because Murad products really do work. And in fact since I’ve been using them I’ve noticed that my skin is absolutely glowing! The Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Eye Serum is fab – it’s slippery and silky and sinks in like a dream. I’ve already noticed a difference after just two weeks – the whole eye area looks smoother. Highly recommended!

Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream

I’m actually on a whole Murad routine at the moment so have also been using the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream which you must use at night time because UV light breaks down retinol during the day. This product contains (get this) Retinol Tri-Active Technology – a fast-acting Retinoid, a time-released Retinol and a Retinol booster. In one cream. It sinks in quickly and isn’t greasy at all and my skin has taken to it like a dream. I think it’s helped my uneven skin tone the most and also my face looks plumper. Again, any Murad product is just simply very good. I mean if you can’t trust dermatologist brands who can you trust?

Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50

And to really fight not only pollution but also blue light, infrared radiation and UVA/UVB rays there is the Murad City Skin Age Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 50 sunscreen. Simply apply this on top of moisturiser during the day to protect. And also perfect actually as it’s a great little primer too. I LOVE that it doesn’t ball up into little greasy balls and my make-up blends perfectly on top of it. It’s not greasy and because of its peachy tone it also colour corrects at the same time, which is why it also makes a great primer. It’s pearlescent too so it gives you a nice glow. I wear this every single day under make-up and above moisturiser and on the weekends on its own. It is brilliant!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream

Living in the city makes my skin feel very dehydrated. Therefore I find it an absolute necessity to carry around the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. It’s brilliant as a lip balm, cleanser, balm (even as a hair smoother). It really does it all. And I’ve got enough baggage to carry around so it’s nice that this little product can do so many things in one. I like to use it as a lip balm and also put it on my cuticles when they are feeling dry. Because of city living I have to wash my hands all the time (touching anything in the tube – gross) so my nails and cuticles get super dry. I keep this on hand to keep the dryness at bay!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Stick

As I said, city living tends to dehydrate my skin and especially my lips. The Eight Hour Cream from Elizabeth Arden also comes in a stick form for the lips and it’s ultra-soothing. A must-have for the handbag and it contains SPF15 too!

Sanoflore Luxury Night Essence 30ml

I’ve tried Sanoflore products before and absolutely loved them. You can read about my previous posts HERE but the latest launch from this French botanical brand is the Sanoflore Luxury Night Essence. If you like organic brands then this is certainly one to look at. This is an anti-ageing night-time essence with the texture of a dry oil which doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy. I hate it when I go to sleep with a greasy oil on my face and it gets all over my silk pillowcase. Ugh. Well this one is not greasy in any way, shape or form and it feels really light and lovely on the skin. You can use this in place of serum at night and under moisturiser. The essence targets wrinkles, fine lines and all the stuff we don’t like our faces to have. And the scent is divine -honestly like a hit of aromatherapy right before you go to sleep. Bliss.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir

I’ve always loved the Caudalie Beauty Elixir. It’s one of those products I keep returning to time and time again. This is a facial mist that you can take with you on-the-go or keep at your desk for a shot of hydration and a hit of aromatherapy when you need it. It’s full of botanicals and essential oils and it smells so nice. It’s super refreshing to the skin and I find it wakes me up better than a coffee sometimes! Living in a city really dehydrates my skin so this is a nice booster to add to your skincare regime.

Caudalie Micellar Cleansing Water

I love micellar water because it just gets rid of make-up and grime so effectively. It’s also gentle to the skin. The Caudalie Micellar Cleansing water is just that – it effectively removes everything you need to remove from your skin (including eye make-up) whilst at the same time being super gentle. I like to use it first thing when I get home to get all the dirt and grime off of my face so it’s not sitting there until 10 when I decide to have a shower and go to bed. Refreshing indeed!

Holika Holika Good Cera Set

I am in love with Korean beauty and I talk about it all the time! I’ve been to Korea five separate times and have scooped up the skincare each and every time. It’s so fun to shop for skincare in Korea and one of my favourite Korean brands is Holika Holika. They have just launched some new products on Lookfantastic which fell into my hands over the weekend – including the Good Cera Super Ceramide Set. If your skin feels super dehydrated then this is a really good set to try because it targets dehydrated skin.

It comes with a Good Cera Super Ceramide Toner which takes off any impurities left on the skin after cleansing and also rebalances and soothes the skin. Next up in the set is the Good Cera Super Ceramide Emulsion which is infused with Ceramides, Yeast Extract and Camellia Oil. This sinks in quickly to skin and ready for your final step which is the Good Cera Super Ceramide Cream.
