In the winter, I have to take extra special care of my skin. That means regular facials and nourishing skincare products. I’ve also been trying to do more masks as well since a facialist recommended me to do it twice a week if I can. I’ve been using a few products to help my skin battle the cold and all the environmental elements that winter brings. Here are a few of my winter skincare favourites for the 2019 New Year.
I love a good clay mask and my skin really thanks me for it if I do masks regularly. The Emma Hardie Purifying Pink Clay Detox Mask is another brilliant product from Emma Hardie (her products are amazing) and if you are looking for a more grown up version of the Sand & Sky Instagram sensation this is the one. The mask contains Australian Pink Clay as well as Moringa Oil. It does help to brighten the skin tone as well and my skin felt super soft after using this! A lovely gift for yourself.
I always harp on about the benefits of serum – it’s so important to add it into your skincare regime! I’ve used Ark products back in the day so was excited that the Ark Skin Perfector Radiance Serum landed on my desk. This one has essential amino acids and oils in it to really nourish the skin and what I like about it is that it works on pigmentation, which is the issue that I have. If you want that dewy skin, it can be yours with this serum.
Filorga products are really very good at pretty much everything. Those in the know about skincare are aware that an essence became popular with the ten-step Korean skincare routine and adding an essence before your serum and after toning gives extra benefits to the skin. The Filorga NCTF-Essence is exactly this. It’s an essence that helps extend the benefits of the winter skincare products that you follow it up with. What this does is hydrate the face so it’s a good product to add into your winter skincare routine if you are looking for extra hydration in the colder months.
I love a good serum and when you find one you love, you want to hold on to it forever. The 001 London Alpha Glow Flash Facial (love the name) is one I’ve recently tested out that I’m really truly loving. There are nine ingredients in the serum that target all ageing concerns (hydration, collagen loss, uneven skin tone, etc.). The great thing about this product is that it’s another multi-tasker being a 3-in-1 serum, primer and mask in one product. I felt it was quite hydrating to my skin so it’s a good one to use in the colder months when our skin tends to get dry from being constantly in and out of the indoor heat and outside cold. A power facial in a bottle is what they say!
I like to use a gentle cleanser in the morning and I’ve found a really good one with the Cerave Hydrating Cleanser. It’s good for night too but I like it particularly for the morning because it’s really hydrating and soothing. It also is gentle enough to not strip your skin of any moisture and it contains hyaluronic acid for an extra boost of moisture throughout the day. Great for a winter skincare routine.
The neck is one of those places we tend to forget about as we age, as well as our hands. However, it’s one of the first places to show off our true age so taking care of the neck and décolletage area is really so important. The Cult 51 product range is incredible, and the Neck & Decolletage Ultra Lifting Serum is no different – it’s fab for tightening the neck area and firm it all up. The brand also did clinical trials that showed 96% of people saw an instant tightening effect, skin firmness improved by up to 89%, wrinkle depth reduced by up to 46% and skin hydration increased by 84%. If that’s not something to shout about I don’t know what is! So, start looking after your neck and décolletage area now – your future you will be grateful.
Never skip your serum, that’s what I always say! Again, I always rave on about Filorga products but only because they are so good. The Filorga Lift Designer Treatment is an anti-ageing serum that is all about firming and lifting, contouring and shaping. This serum is also great for the neck if you are concerned about sagging skin because this serum really does tighten. I also like the roll-on applicator which makes it really nice to apply to the skin.
I’ve always loved Bobbi Brown make-up but I’m actually a beginner for their skincare products if you can believe it. I am loving the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Face Base – it’s described as a primer but actually a priming moisturiser and it leaves skin with a velvety feel that makes it easier to create a base for your make-up. I love it for my winter skincare routine because it’s got Shea Butter and Vitamins B, C and E. It feels rich without being greasy as well and leaves your skin feeling smooth and soft.
Again, another Filorga product hits the charts. This Oxygen Peel lotion is a lovely treatment that you can simply apply to a cotton pad and swipe over the skin every day after cleansing that will help combat the effects of the environment as well as moisturise and brighten the skin tone. It also stimulates oxygen in the cells, leading to a brighter and more refreshed look.
The Ren Perfect Canvas is one of my all-time favourite products! This is a primer that you can apply before your make-up that creates a filling effect so it smooths fine lines and uneven textures. I like to use it just under my eyes where I’ve got a few fine lines so that it looks even smoother. Highly recommended!
I’m pretty much obsessed with all Erborian products and the latest one, the Erborian CC Red Correct is no different. My skin has been particularly irritated lately and quite red in certain areas. The CC Red Correct comes out a pale green but then colour corrects any redness on the skin and actually adapts to your own skin tone (I’ve got a fair/medium skin tone). It’s also got SPF 25 in it, so you are covered, literally! I use the BB Cream Nude everyday so have switched up my routine to use this one instead whilst my skin is quite uneven in tone and really loving it.
My goal is to take off my make-up as soon as I get through the door, but it doesn’t always happen that way so what I try to do is at least remove as much as I can with micellar solution first. You just need to apply the Filorga Anti-Ageing Micellar Solution to a cotton pad and sweep over the skin. It takes off dirt, oil and make-up in a New York minute and has anti-ageing properties too.
I was sceptical at first because I know this is a pricey lip balm but honestly, I have to say this is the best lip balm I’ve ever tried and gulp, I would even spend my own money on it. It is just beautiful, that’s what I can best describe the By Terry Rose Lip Balm as. It’s velvety, soothing, moisturising and it is literally my ride-or-die lip balm through the winter. It contains shea butter, rose flower essential wax and Vitamin E to make your lips feel like they are on cloud nine.
The Lancer Face Serum Intense is one of those incredible serums that you hope will do what it says on the tin and it really does. I’ve got pigmentation, uneven skin tone and melasma so I’m always working to try to even and brighten my skin tone. This serum does just that by working to reduce dark spots and discolouration with an LES-10 Brightening Complex. My issue is that when an acne spot fades it eventually turns into a brown spot that won’t go away. The Lancer Fade Serum Intense also has sugar cane extract to combat those pesky brown spots and liquorice root to help prevent further damage. If you do suffer from pigmentation this is a pricey serum but a little goes a long way and it really is worth the price.
Everyone talks about how good the Lancer products are and I’m here to raise my hand up and say YES, they are that good. Lancer The Method Cleanse is a lovely scrub cleanser that tackles dead skin cells and acne-causing bacteria so it’s great for people who suffer from spots as well. I try to exfoliate regularly so would recommend this for anyone!
