There’s nothing like opening the lid to a new face cream. Even better if it’s a luxury face cream – there’s a feeling of self-indulgence like I can’t even explain when I swipe the first dab across my face. I love trying new luxury face creams because I’m all about that indulgent little treat. And your face is the first thing people see so why not invest in it? I’ve been testing a few of my favourite luxury face creams in the past couple of months – here are my top five this summer.
Everyone wants to get their hands, or should I say face, on Drunk Elephant. It’s the most talked-about skincare range to hit the UK in recent months and I managed to get my hands on one of their latest products – the newly reformulated, brand new version of the Lala Retro Whipped Cream which contains ceramides in it as well as a blend of six rare African oils. If your skin cells are bricks, think of ceramides as the mortar that holds them together. Hence ceramides in skincare products are very important. I had high expectations for the The Drunk Elephant Lala Retro Whipped Cream and I’m happy to say it does leave skin as supple as it claims, with restored bounce and moisture. My skin does look plumper after using this cream and that was only after the first night.
What we do need to give the Drunk Elephant brand credit for is creating an entirely new category in the beauty space – ‘Clean Clinical.’ Nothing contains any essential oils, drying alcohols, silicones, chemical screens, fragrances, dyes or SLS. I’m already a fan so can’t wait to get my hands on their retinol products next.
Rodin Olio Lusso products just feel indulgent the moment you even look at them. I’ve featured the lipsticks before which are absolutely DIVINE so it was no wonder I would instantly fall in love with their skincare range. The Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Cream is the first skincare product I’ve tried from the brand and it’s a beautiful one, totally self-indulgent. The cream is 95% naturally-derived with plant oils and natural butters. It has no parabens, phthalates, sulphates or any synthetic fragrances. If your skin feels dry, dehydrated or dull this is the perfect treat. Yes, it’s pricey but a little goes a long way and you can really savor this one. For example, I would only use this at night because of the aromatherapy benefits from the scent so you can really make this cream become part of your indulgent self-care ritual in the evenings.
I love a rich moisturiser and the Kiehl’s Super Multi-Corrective Cream is a real cracker. It’s rich and creamy and feels fabulous on the skin for starts and it works on texture and tone of the skin with hyaluronic acid, beech tree extract and jasmonic acid. Essentially this is a great cream if your skin is dehydrated and you have fine lines or wrinkles. It’s also a great anti-ageing cream for sensitive skin as well! It works on retexturizing the skin so if your skin feels rough to the touch or has uneven texture this cream will really help.
I’m so glad people are now finally aware that baking in the sun is NOT GOOD FOR YOU! When I was younger my pretty older cousins would spend hours baking in the sun because back then no one knew any better and a golden glow was revered after a long, hot summer in the American Midwest. I am IN LOVE with the Decleor Sun-Kissed Cream in Green Mandarin because it gives you a natural glow without having to be in the sun (the cream is bright orange but blends in sheer into the skin). The DECLÉOR Green Mandarin Sun-Kissed Cream also smells divine and is full of aromatherapy benefits as well as a natural skin booster with an antioxidant blend of citrus essentials oils extracted from Green Mandarin, Lemon, Grapefruit and Orange. My skin felt nourished, plumper and definitely with an added glow. One of my new favourite luxury face creams and a great radiance-booster.
Now I love a cream that smells and looks pretty but I also want it to work. The Bio Effect Daytime is a no-nonsense moisturiser that has some pretty incredible skincare benefits and real science behind it. This brand from Iceland uses plant-based EGFs (Epidermal Growth Factor, a naturally occurring human protein) that helps to rebuild the skin from the inside and really kicking ageing in the teeth. It rehydrates, rebuilds (by activating cells that enhance cell renewal) and increases plumpness from the inside. Essentially it provides some real benefits to the skin so you are looking for a daytime moisturiser that really works, then the Bio Effect Daytime Moisturizer is a fabulous choice.
