Pigmentation is hard to shift and it’s no wonder it’s recently been labelled as a chronic disease because it’s something that you have to keep treating. A lifelong battle, I say. Pigmentation can be caused by so many things – hormones, sun damage, pollution…the list is endless. I think if you have pigmentation then you have to use a targeted serum so I’ve put together a post on the best serums for pigmentation that also have anti-pollution benefits because pollution can make pigmentation even worse. If it’s not one thing, it’s another…
Antipodes Blessing Anti-Pollution Light Face Serum
I was really excited when Antipodes launched a new serum – their serums are really good! And this one is all about Anti-Pollution – the word on everyone’s lips these days. Pollution is really damaging to skin so it’s really important to try to protect your skin against the effects. In terms of combatting pigmentation it contains Marshmallow Bloom and Liquorice Root that helps brighten the appearance of skin. To combat pollution, you need antioxidants which in this case are Vinanza Grape and Asian Ginger. For strengthening there is Kiwi Seed Oil (rich in Vitamin C) and Avocado Oil. The Antipodes Blessing Anti-Pollution Light Face Serum is also super lightweight so it sinks in like a dream when you apply it.
Kiehl’s Dark Spot Correcting Serum
I have to say I am loving Kiehl’s products these days – everything seems to suit my skin so well. I’ve got melasma which is essentially pigmentation. Pigmentation has actually just been classed as a ‘chronic disease’ meaning that with conditions like melasma, it’s really hard to treat and shift the pigmentation. Therefore, you have to constantly be treating it so it doesn’t get any worse. Enter the Kiehl’s Dark Spot Correcting Serum which is a fabulous serum that helps reduce dark spots on the skin and prevent further discoloration. This is what you always have to think of when treating pigmentation. In other words, how can you prevent it from getting worse? The Kiehl’s Dark Spot Correcting Serum contains peony extracts and activated Vitamin C which tackles existing dark spots and prevents new ones. You can use this day and night as your main serum.
Dior Capture Youth Intense Rescue Serum
If your skin feels like the surface of a desert then the Dior Capture Youth Intense Rescue Serum is for you. This is all about helping skin that is stressed by replenishing lipid loss. Skin that is dry and dehydrated will make pigmentation look even worse so you must keep your skin hydrated. This serum is PERFECT for post-holiday skin that just feels thirsty (this was me two weeks ago returning from the Caribbean). The serum contains Argan Oil, Tamanu fatty acids and the antioxidant Iris Florentina which all help combat dehydrated skin.
I love a brand that’s all about science and QMS is one of those. The QMS Skin Tone Light Serum is specifically targeted to address pigmentation so if you suffer from melasma, dark spots or old acne scars then this is one of the best serums for pigmentation to use. I really think it’s helped my pigmentation get back down to normal after being exposed to the sun in the Caribbean. I like to use this at night but you can use this day or night where it will help even skin tone and help reduce future pigmentation. The formula is super silky as well and you can even use this on places that are prone to pigmentation such as the back of the hands as well.
Now I love Alpha-H products (anyone out there using Liquid Gold?) so was really excited to hear they were launching the Alpha-H Hyaluronic 8 Serum. Hyaluronic is an essential skincare ingredient, the moisture molecule as they call it, that helps to plump and moisturize the skin. This serum is like Hyaluronic on ‘roids however because it is seriously amazing. It’s got 8 ingredients in it that include multi-weighted forms of hyaluronic acid molecules so it really reaches all layers of the skin. The serum also contains Primalhyal Ultrafiller which is meant to be a kind of ‘filler in a bottle’ so along with a new molecular complex called Patch20 the product is clinically proven to swell the skin’s moisture reservoir and sustain hydration for up to 48 hours. And it’s anti-pollution as well. Is there anything that this serum doesn’t do? One for the books, people, one for the books.
Real Chemistry Environmental Rescue Daily Serum
Pollution go away! I’ve told you what pollution can do to your skin, including pigmentation so a serum is vital. The Real Chemistry Environmental Rescue Daily Serum really is chock-full of antioxidants and if you are looking for one of the best serums for pigmentation that will also help defend against UV rays, pollution and free radicals then this one is it. I like that it also contains Aloe to help soothe the skin so this is the perfect serum to take on a sunny holiday.

Jamie, Hi these products all looked interesting! My brown spots seem to be growing and wondered if one of these seem to lighten up the brown spots better. I spend most of my day out side in the sun and weather as you know,

Hi Diane! The Kiehl’s Dark Spot Corrector is a particularly good one if you have dark spots on the skin. Clinical peels will also help to shift this pigmentation as well and I hope you are wearing an SPF50 every single day and also wearing a hat!
