People always ask me what serums that I recommend them to use and for me it comes down to one very simple but effective skincare ingredient. If there was ONE ingredient that I would recommend to anyone and everyone when it comes to skincare it’s VITAMIN C. It’s something I go back to time and time again, year after year. I love trying new skincare products with new, trendy ingredients but for me, it’s Vitamin C that is the real game changer. That’s why I want to talk about one of the best Vitamin C serums for brighter skin.
The reason I love Vitamin C so much is because it’s so good at reducing and controlling pigmentation. I have melasma on my forehead and a little on my cheeks and for me it’s a constant battle to find the best products for melasma that will actually work at reducing the pigmentation. So, for anyone who suffers from pigmentation, dark spots or melasma, Vitamin C is one of the most effective ways at reducing and controlling the pigmentation (so that it doesn’t get worse!).
So what exactly does Vitamin C do for your skin? Vitamin C serum is acidic, meaning that it eats away at dead skin cells, leaving your skin smoother and brighter over time. This in term speeds up cell regeneration so that you are left with ‘newer’ and fresher-looking skin. One of the BEST Vitamin C serums for brighter skin is the Obagi Professional-C Serum. This is a pro-grade serum with a whopping 20% Vitamin C concentration. And to be honest, you can’t go wrong with Obagi – I’ve been using their products here and there over the last few years and I’m always impressed!
I like to use Vit C products in the morning because as Vit C is a powerful antioxidant, it will help protect against environmental aggressors and damage caused by UV rays during the daylight hours.
Vit C skincare products are wonderful for everyone but especially those living in urban environments and those who are exposed to pollution and toxins in the air. The Obagi Professional-C Serum is one that you apply to freshly-cleansed skin – my rule of thumb is that I like to wait for it to sink in for a minute or two before applying my moisturiser and then follow with SPF after that. My perfect skincare routine is cleansing my face in the shower, then applying the Obagi Professional-C Serum onto my dry, clean skin. After that, I brush my teeth while I’m waiting for it to sink in.
Professional-C Serum 20% is the highest concentrated serum, making it one of the best Vitamin C serums for brighter skin on the market. The key benefits of using this product include correcting previous visible damage on the skin (think dark spots and pigmentation) and also reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Also, the Professional-C Serum absorbs FIVE TIMES better than other leading brands, hence the price of the product is reflected in the quality.
This is a product I use sparingly and because the quality and absorption are so good you only need 5-7 drops of this for your face and neck. It’s not only formulated to absorb well into the skin but also stay there.
Are you a fan of Vit C serums? If so, what are some of the best Vitamin C Serums for brighter skin you’ve used previously?
*this post is in collaboration with Obagi skincare but all words, views and opinions are my own, as always
