From Balms to Stylos: The Best New Lipsticks for Spring

I love lipsticks. For me there is no other make-up item quite as transformational as the lipstick. A simple swipe of lipstick can change your entire look and brighten your whole face. I don’t even want to tell you how many lipsticks I own. However, I also feel that one can NEVER have too many lipsticks! There are so many innovations in lipsticks – different textures, colours and shapes so I’ve come to the conclusion that one lipstick is never quite like the other. Also spring is around the corner and with it the chance to get a bit more playful with colour – hence, a great time to talk about lipstick! I’ve come across some pretty killer lipstick launches lately – some included in this post are new, others are cult classics (Kat Von D I’m looking at ya!). And I’ve got everything from stylos to sticks to balms to lipsticks to mattes. Let me tell you all about the best new lipsticks for spring…

The Best New Lipsticks for Spring

Aerin is one of those brands that is just so PRETTY you can’t help but want to just gaze at their almost ‘too gorgeous to use’ lipsticks. The Aerin Rose Balm Lipstick  is a beautiful choice of lipstick for spring because it has a balm texture, medium coverage and a shine finish. Does this not tick every box for spring make-up? Dewy, glowy skin would work perfect with this lipstick. And the frosting on the cake? The wax in the lipstick is actually extracted from real rose petals. The shades in this collection are also ultra-feminine which is exactly why you would want to use Aerin in the first place – their products make you feel pretty from the moment you pick them up.

Burt’s Bees – I’m sure you have heard of this gorgeous natural brand that hails from Maine, USA. I’ve talked about their glosses HERE previously. Well, they have launched 18 brand spankin’ new LIPSTICKS very recently and if you are into green beauty you are going to want to sit up and pay attention. Let me tell you that just because these products are ‘green’ there is no compromise on pigment quality – these are simply gorgeous. I think there is a common misperception that green beauty brands are not as good as premium beauty brands and these lipsticks are the proof that this is simply silly!

As I mentioned there are 18 shades in the new collection and they all have beautiful pigment and the thing I like most about them is that they don’t dry out the lips. All of the lipsticks contain moringa and raspberry seed oils to help soften and condition lips. And another great thing to ease your conscious? The packaging is recyclable.

My two favourite shades in the new collection are Orchid Ocean (below) and Crimson Coast (below). The Orchid Ocean is a dark plum that is perfect for a pretty goth look and the Crimson Coast is a gorgeous burnt orange red that is perfectly on trend for the spring season.

Sticks to Stylos

If you are looking for something a bit fun then look no further than the Crayola Chubby Stick Intense Moisturising Lip Colour Balm from Clinique. This is a brilliant collaboration and a fun one at that. Each chubby stick has been turned into a Crayola crayon that is super easy to slick on. I love the colour of these and also that they feel really moisturising. You also don’t need a lip liner to use these as essentially these are a kind of pen so it’s very easy to outline the lips with the colour and then fill them in. I’ve really taken to these and one is now in my bag at all times. The colours are great, the formula feels moisturising – what more do you want?

I’ve got colours Brick Red and Razzmatazz (both below and above).

And on the topic of Stylos the new GIRL collection from Hourglass is just perfection.  I’ve got the Hourglass GIRL Lip Stylo in Peacemaker which is a beautiful classic rose nude that is fabulous for everyday. What I love about stylos (just like sticks) is that you don’t need a lip liner. You can simply outline the lips with these and then fill in the rest. This makes them the perfect handbag accessory. Also I love the texture as well – these are lipsticks essentially but also infused with a blend of Shea Butter, Jojoba, Mimosa and Sunflower Seed for softer, fuller lips. The formula is meant to make these feel like second-skin so it makes them perfect for everyday use.

Liquid Lipsticks (Matte Finish)

No one does a liquid matte lipstick quite like Kat Von D and the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick is certainly worth a splurge. I love that these are super long-wearing and the pigment is out of this world! The finish is matte so these are super sleek and look amazing no matter what the colour. I love the nude shades but also love the darker shades too. The interesting thing about these lipticks is that when you put them on, they apply and glide over the lips like a gloss which allows you to perfect your pout but then dry to a matte finish.

I’ve swatched the two colours I have below in Lolita II and Double Dare. You can see for yourself that the pigment payoff is amazing. The great thing about the fab pigment is that you can actually draw outside your lip line to make your lips appear fuller. You can’t do this with a sheer lipstick but this works amazing with the Kat Von D Liquid Matte Lipsticks.

Another brand that makes amazing matte lipsticks that is at a high street price is Gosh Copenhagen. The Gosh Copenhagen Liquid Matte Lips collection is a new launch for SS17 and these are really great matte lipsticks. The formula is really different in that it feels slightly sticky but actually I think this is what makes it stay put. I mean this in a totally good way because with that feeling your lips feel moisturised even though the finish is matte. I was really impressed with this range and how long the Liquid Matte Lips lasted. I tried a range of colours in different situations – during lunches, out for drinks, on the commute – you get it. The formula STAYS PUT. The formula has also been built with the LiPfection technology which has been proven to increase the instant blood flow in the capillaries after one application, which as a result increases the volume of the lips. And these won’t bust the budget either!

Lip Balm

In regards to Lip Balms, the Aerin Rose Lip Conditioner is amazing. If you are just wanting something very moisturising for lips that will also leave them with a subtle shine look no further. This is one of the prettiest lip balms I’ve come across lately – I love the texture and the formula feels like a dream on the lips. The rose scent is also fabulous!

I’m continuing on with green beauty in regards to lip products with the new Weleda Tinted Lip Balms . Let me just explain – I LOVE a balm. Winter dries my lips out big time. With the indoor heating and blustering winds it’s hard to keep lips moisturised. The Weleda Tinted Lip Balms are natural and the shades are inspired by nature too – Nude to naturally enhance your lip colour, Rose for a hint of rosy pink and Berry Red for a just-bitten berry look.

My favourite of the three is Berry Red and I love the texture of the balm. Think lipstick but in a balm formula – great for if you want something between a lipstick and a lip gloss.

So now you’ve got it. ALL the lipsticks you could want to know about – from stylos to balms. I am a true lipstick addict so I hope you have enjoyed this post as much as I have trying all these amazing lipsticks!

I love lipstick you have shown here, I love PURPLE LIPS!!!!!! For a long time I thought purple looked good only on those with a darker complexion but when I tried it, it became a staple in my makeup bag. I’m thinking about doing a blog post about different purples that look good on different complexions!! I love dark shades of lipsticks. recently posted: https://therightlipstick.com
