Split End Remedies: The Best Treatments for Dry Hair

Aahh, we can finally shake off the darkness of winter and step into Spring…what a relief! However, with all the indoor heating during the winter, the Beast from the East and bitter cold outside as well as the hard water of London my hair has seemed more dry than usual and in fact, a bit parched. I’m super diligent about my skincare routine but often find I don’t treat my hair or my body skin quite as nicely as my face. With spring here, I’ve tried some of the best treatments for dry hair along with some split end remedies – both luxury and affordable. And without further ado, here they are!

Moroccanoil Treatment (Light)

Hallelujah an oil for fine hair has ARRIVED! I LOVE hair oils but often find I can’t use them on my fine hair because they are too heavy. Well, Moroccanoil have gone and created a special LIGHT formula for fine and light-coloured hair. And it’s just perfect for parched strands. It still has the Argan oil formula of it’s heavier sister, the original Moroccanoil Treatment but it’s lighter and more easily absorbed by finer hair. And it also protects against UV which is just fab, really. It’s very nice to apply to dry ends or on damp hair after showering on mid-lengths to ends.

IGK HAIR Prenup Instant Spray Hair Mask

IGK are basically my new hair faves, I must admit. Everything from their style, philosophy and packaging – this is clearly a millennial favourite. The names make me giggle as well but deep down these products really do work and are super innovative as well. The IGK Hair Prenup Instant Spray Hair Mask you use in-shower like a normal hair mask but it does its job in under a minute. I mean HOW good is that? After shampooing you just need to spritz from roots to end and massage into hair. It’s got Amla Oil, Cupuacu Butter and Apple Cider Vinegar – all the good stuff, really. And all traditional remedies for hair if you think about it. If you are short on time and want a hair mask that’s easy peasy, then this is your guy. The mask also gives your hair UV protection as well, which is super important!

Aveda Damage Remedy Restructuring Treatment

Hair gods in a bottle is what the Aveda Damage Remedy Restructuring Treatment is! This not only cleanses but also treats at the same time. If you have parched hair than this is definitely a lovely product to get your hands on. Or shall I say your hair? As with all Aveda products it has organic ingredients – this one with a plant-based blend so if you like natural hair products that are gentle and safe but do the job then Aveda is a great brand to try. My hair felt soft, clean and silky after using this. All you have to do is apply it to damp hair in the shower, massage in and rinse out. Some people also leave on as an overnight mask.

Rita Hazan Triple Threat Split End Remedy

Split ends? You can say bye bye to them with the Rita Hazan Triple Threat Split End Remedy. Rita Hazan is a celebrity hair stylist to the stars in New York and she herself is lovely, having met her last year at a UK launch. Her products ARE fab and if you have dry, split ends then this is a perfect remedy to be exact – it’s got smart polymers that strengthen strands and ‘glue’ them back together. And it protects from further damage from heat tools. You can’t get better than that!

Tweak’d By Nature Restore Hair Strengthening Shampoo/Conditioner (launching on QVC soon!)

If you like natural brands you will be thrilled with the newest organic hair care brand to hit the UK from abroad. Tweak’d by Nature makes organic hair care products with Dhatelo Seed Oil as a main ingredient, sustainably sourced from the Himalayas. The shampoo and conditioner are a dream team – they work together to soften and smooth hair whilst nourishing it without too much heaviness. Great for any type of hair!

Klorane Nourishing Shampoo with Mango Butter

I am in LOVE with the scent of this shampoo from Klorane and it’s their latest launch so definitely worth checking out. If your hair is dry, then this is a great choice as it contains butter from the mango kernel which helps to soften and nourish hair. It’s good for fine hair as well because it doesn’t leave hair feeling weighed down.

Klorane Nutrition Nourishing Conditioner

And to go with the Klorane Nourishing Shampoo with Mango Butter there is the Klorane Nutrition Nourishing Conditioner which is like the cherry on the sundae. Again, this contains Mango Butter which is derived from the mango kernel so it’s really nourishing for dry tresses. Again, this doesn’t weigh the hair down but leaves it super soft and smelling of mangos!

Antonin B Intense Honey Butter

The Antonin B Intense Honey Butter may look like a small pot but trust me, a little bit goes a long way. In fact, a half a pea size per use is recommended. This is a hair treatment that is solid but quckly melts into a light oil when it meets the warmth of your hand. You can use it either as a treatment as a hair mask (I left mine on overnight) or as a natural styling aid if you like a slicked-back look or even if you have coarser hair or tight curls this product would work incredible at nourishing those kinds of hair.

Antonin B Ceramides Enriched Desert Serum

Yes, serum is now not only for the face, but also the hair. And thank goodness for that. We know that ceramides are important in skincare for moisturisation but what happens when you put it into the hair? Well, the same thing really. The Antonin B Ceramides Enriched Desert Serum is great for dry, colour-treated or chemically processed hair. It smells incredible with a host of botanicals jam-packed into the bottle and my hair felt softer and certainly less parched after using it. Desert-island beauty saviour indeed.

Coco & Eve Like a Virgin Hair Mask

Okay this hair mask isn’t cheap at around £34 but it smells DIVINE. Honestly, I had to open it up straight away and use it – it really smells that good. It also comes with a detangling brush so you can comb it through your hair – so you get the brush and the mask for the price. You simply need to apply it to damp hair for 10 minutes and then rinse out. I have to say that my hair did feel super soft after using it. And I kept getting that coconut and island breeze scent all day every time my hair swished in my face. It does feel lovely and luxe to use this with raw virgin coconut, fig essence, argan oil and shea butter.

Knight & Wilson PurePlex Revolutionary Hair System

Okay I love Olaplex but it is pricey so if you are looking for a lower-priced alternative then look no further than Knight & Wilson PurePlex Revolutionary Hair System. This operates under a similar treatment as Olaplex in that it completely restores and rebuilds hair’s structure. In other words, this is bond technology. What happens over time to your hair after over-styling and over-bleaching, etc. is that it breaks down little by little. If you do have over-processed hair, then this could be just what you need. It’s only 4-steps and you do it at home, saving you on an expensive hair salon bill! It also not only repairs but protects against future damage. What’s not to love?

IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm

The IGK Mistress Hydrating Hair Balm had me at coconut oil (which I love the smell of). If your hair feels particularly dry then it’s good to just add a dab to ends (if you have fine hair) and if you have coarser hair you can use a little bit all over, like a hair lotion. Mid-lengths to ends is best though. You can also apply it to dry ends after you style your hair if you feel they are a little bit more dry than usual. I love the smell of this and again if you have fine hair like me, just a tiny bit on the ends will do for this one!

IGK Call Time Primer

I know I’ve gone IGK crazy for this post but honestly, I really do love the products. In fact, I’ve done a whole other post on them HERE where I talk about their dry shampoos. The IGK Call Time Primer is exactly this – it primes and preps your hair for styling. It’s a coconut water-infused mist that again smells so nice and that will help protect hair from heat styling. You can also use it as a UV protector so if you are out and about in the sun give your hair a quick spritz before you go out.

Knight & Wilson Style Freedom Rejuvenating Oil

Again, if you love a hair oil but aren’t prepared to spend lots of money then the Knight & Wilson Style-Freedom Rejuvenating Vitamin Oil is a good and affordable hair oil that not only has antioxidants and Vitamins A & E but also offers UV protection. I thought this was really great on the ends of my hair and even applied it overnight to treat my hair as I slept (like a overnight mask) and then washed my hair in the morning. It absorbs easily into the hair and didn’t feel greasy. I think this can be used on all types of hair as well.

Knight & Wilson Bond Reconstructuring Shampoo/Conditioner

This particular shampoo and conditioner is to be used after you use the PurePlex Revolutionary Hair Repair System I mentioned above. Again, it just helps to carry on reinforcing hair and repairing damage, whilst also protecting against future damage. If your hair has just simply had too much but you don’t want to spend money on an expensive in-salon treatment, definitely give this one a go!

Klorane Nourishing Leave-In Cream with Mango Butter

I love the smell of this product – smells like fresh mangos! You can leave this product in so a little goes a long way. Simply apply to damp locks after showering from mid-lengths to ends. I love Klorane products – the brand remains one of my favourite hair care brands out there. It also helps to detangle which is amazing. I’ve got fine hair so it gets tangled super easily which is really annoying and I find that this product definitely makes it easier to come through your hair after washing.

Tweak’d By Nature Restore Revitalising Hair Treatment Mist

Tweak’d By Nature is a new brand hitting the UK this month from abroad and is landing on QVC UK. The owner of the brand grew up in the Himalayas so this Tweak’d By Nature Restore Revitalising Hair Treatment Mist contains a key ingredient – dhatelo seed oil straight from the Himalayas which contains omega oils, fatty acids, proteins and antioxidants. Basically, the whole hog. I actually am a HUGE fan of a hair mists and I use them all the time to help shape my waves, especially on the 2nd day after I’ve washed my hair. I also use them before using a blow dryer as they help protect against heat styling. This one smells incredible as well – like vanilla. Use it to give your hair an extra boost of moisture on dry days!
