Not Your Basic Wash: Best Facial Cleansers

Cleansing has gone beyond basic now and now there are so many amazing cleansers out there that do it all – remove pollutants, make-up and treat at the same time. This is no longer your basic b*$&h cleanser – these guys are upping the game. Here are my picks for best facial cleansers…

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm

There is something about a cleansing balm that feels really luxurious to me. I think it’s all in the application because with a balm you pretty much have to massage it into skin so for me a balm equates to luxury – it always has. This Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm is the best of the best – the balm transforms to a lovely silky oil when you apply it to warm skin – it feels amazing. It’s fabulous to use for removing make-up and dirt and the best thing about this product besides actually cleansing? Well it’s that you can personalise the product – spend £4.95 for up to 10 characters – it’s so worth it!

Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil

And then there is a cleansing oil that I absolutely love. Again I’m drawn by smell, consistency, feeling on the skin and ability to remove make-up and grime. You all know the cult-classic Midnight Recovery from Kiehl’s so with it comes the Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil. This brilliant cleanser starts out as an oil but then emulsifies with water to a cleansing milk which I love because it at no point in time feels greasy. It literally also removes everything in one go. I love the texture of this cleanser and the fact that it just plain gets rid of all the dirt and grime on my face after a day in the busy city. It contains botanical oils including Squalane, Evening Primrose Oil (rich in fatty acids) and Lavender which is soothing on the skin and spirit. This cleanser is also non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog pores so is ideal for acne-prone skin.

Decleor Essential Cleansing Milk

I love a gentle cleansing milk as the second step in my double cleanse. The texture and consistency of a cleansing milk feels silky and lovely – especially to cleaner skin and it helps to just remove any remaining impurities on the skin. The Decleor Essential Cleansing Milk feels and smells amazing with Neroli essential oil and it’s a great product to finish off your cleanse with. You can of course use it alone but as a big fan of the double-cleanse I like to use this one in my second step. Active ingredients include ‘detoxifying Green Tea Essential Water to help remove dirt and tighten pores for a clearer, more radiant complexion, Sweet Almond Oil to leave skin beautifully soft and comfortable, and heavenly-fragranced Neroli Essential Oil to help protect, repair and fight against dehydration.’

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

If you haven’t tried Pixi Glow Tonic yet where have you been? Well, the same thought in regards to glycolic acid (the secret behind the Glow Tonic) has been put behind this new product from Pixi which is the Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser. The cleanser contains 5% glycolic acid that helps to exfoliate dead skin cells and debris on the skin’s surface without having to scrub them away. This cleansing mud helps to brighten and cleanse and it works even better if you follow your cleanse with the Pixi Glow Tonic itself to get a double boost of glycolic acid (a brilliant little ingredient)! The acid content in the cleanser may make your skin tingle but this is completely normal – it just means it is working!

Swiss Clinic Micellar Cleansing Gel

This is a really amazing cleansing gel because it actually has the appearance of water! This cleanser uses micelles which grab onto dirt and oil and remove them all. You don’t have to rinse with this cleanser so it makes it ideal for on-the-go cleansing or even as a first step in a double-cleanse routine. You could use this on your face to remove all the dirt and grime and then follow with another cleanser if you want that super super clean feeling. But this one does a pretty darn good job. This also takes off stubborn make-up too!

Sond Gentle Daily Cleanser

I love to start the day with a gentle cleanser and I never use harsh cleansers first thing in the morning. So this one by Sond is actually quite perfect for me at the early hour.  It contains Shea and Cocoa Butter (and smells fabulous too) that lifts off impurities without stripping away skin’s natural moisture. I think this is really important in the morning because you still have a whole day to get through and your skin needs all the moisture it can get! A great simple cleanser that does what it says it does.
